running temperatures

couple of questions for anyone in the know, basically at the weekend i got the F4R fired up in the mk1 shell, it had been sat for around 8 months since last being run, i left it idling for 5 to 10 mins as it was running a bit lumpy at first, eventually it settled down.

but....

my oil temp didnt move from 20 deg at all, and yet i could feel the mocal cooler getting hot, hotter than 20 degress i'd say!

also had a coolant issue, ie that when idling it would raise the level in the expansion tank, eventually overflowing, is that just down to an air lock? i tried to run it long enough for the fan to kick in (have it set at 70 degrees) but the water temp guage didnt budge off 18 degrees :S

i have the oil temp sender in the sandwich plate, and the water temp sender in the top rad hose, any ideas why the temps stayed the same?

somethings not right there.
As you say the temps should have moved, and the expansion tank won't boil over unless you've got too much water temperature. Checked your wiring? Manual check of the sensors using multimeter?

im hoping i havent boiled the coolant now! ffs!

although the level in the expansion tank was rising gradually it wasnt 'boiling' as i have seen other cars do

how exactly can i check them?

i suppose i can take them out and dip them in a cup of hot water to see if they give a reading?

i have earthed the oil pressure sender and oil temp sender 'in line' so to speak, but the water temp has its own seperate earth, but the oil oil pressure seems to be giving good readings

5.5 bar on startup, dropping to 2 bar ish after idling for 10 mins or so
