Russ's Elise on track @ Combe

  53 Clio's & counting
Had a quick session in the morning, was going pretty well - wasnt flat out as this was my first outing on track in the elise, and experienced a bit of a moment coming out of Quarray lol

Please forgive my handfisted driving, iv not been on track in 7 months and need to be a lot smoother!

Was fantastic on track, never felt like I needed more power, and only had to move over for the mental V8 MG thing lol

Spec is:
118bhp Elise
Sports rear box and induction kit
S2 Bilstein suspension
Uprated discs with yellowstuff pads

Hope you enjoy

PS, anyone get any pics of me?

I have some pics I think, will dig them out later.

Loved your Quarry 'moment', everyone thought you had saved it beautifully...then it was hello to the overtaking sign! Any damage from the cone etc?

The Westfield took out the other overtaking board one on the other side of Quarry exit.

The MG V8 was nuts, seemed to overtake most cars 3 or 4 times in a 15 minute session.

Ahh it was your Elise!! Pete, Chris and I were there for that! The tail drifted slightly on the apex and thought you caught it but then swang round!

Did the sign-hitting cause any damage?

Lol cheers matey, I almost got it, but too much lock can flip the Elise the other was so quickly, so I was being as gentle as I could, and it was far safer to spin in lol so I let it go.

Only a green mark from the sign and some very light scratches, which will T-cut out as running my nail over them I cant feel anything.

Pics would be great thanks mate :)

  Turbos.
Looks like you had fun out there, good to see you using it properly!

You clearly were going much quicker into quarry on the lap it span. A lot of sawing on the wheel in general...was your last car a FWD i presume?

Correct Rob, 5 years tracking the 172 lol, and this being the first time on track in the E, need to be smoother with my steering - im not normally as ham fisted

I think I was literally right next to you, I was sat shooting at the exit of Quarry right at the end of the new concrete banking.

Were you the other side of those people on the camp chairs? Were a couple people round us with big lenses (no innuendos implied).

Glad to see was only a scuff Russ!

I was right next to 3 blokes talking about the yellow R26, I did wonder if it was Cliosport people after. I think there were people on chairs to my right, not sure though.

Here's the pic anyhow Russ, not normally a keeper as it's a bit blurry, but you might still want it...

I didnt spot ya mate id have come said hi (After we had got off the track lol) How come you didnt come catch me!

Well I was touching about 117mph up avon rise in the Elise, compared to 129mph in the Clio, but the average lap time was the same, so shows how much quicker the Elise is through the bends - more specifically exiting the bends - you can get on the power and come out a lot quicker than you expect (apart from the odd quarray moment pmsl)

As for feel ,it 'feels' a lot faster, but then I have no roof and my arse is 4 inches off the ground which makes a huge difference, I can definately drive the Clio a lot harder, and throw it around easier - the elise needs 100% concentration or it bites - hence my spin lol.

But, you get it right, concentrate hard and it's just amazing - the feedback you get, and the enjoyment is 100 times better

Nice, I used to own T517 RPK but, oddly, that had the later 12 spoke wheels despite appearing to have been registered before yours. Maybe they were an option prior to becoming standard?

Iv been told that the 99-2000 Elises were a miss match of parts, some have the AWI's, some have the 12 spokes, some had steel uprights and some had ally - mine have the earlier AWI alloys but later Steel uprights - good old Lotus lol

Cheers Russ :)

I was really happy with it on track only the V8 MGB and the Evo X were quicker. I want to go back for a full day on track now!
