Sat Nav - Help!!

Ok, Im going to get a Sat Nav system for my car, I do have use for it and its not there just to be a toy (before I get told its a waste of money and to get a map!)

I dont wanna spend more than about £600, so Im looking at either a basic in dash one, or a PDA install. Im probably going to go down the PDA route but this is where I get confused. There are so many different products its doing my head in. What PDA to get, what software to get etc...

Any advice? TomTom looks good, will it work on any PDA? Help!!

Get a Garmin Streetpilot 2610, coulor screen with touch, and has all the features like the build in nav. units, with very detailed map´s and p.o.i. such as hotel´s , gas station´s ect. ect.
