scratched disk

i had saints row in my xbox, was playin it, and knocked xbox accidently. At first didnt think anything of it, put disk back in case, then few days later went to play it again... put disk back in, got as fat as the loading screen and just freezes on that, so i took disk out, and thers a scratch all the way around it.

Anything i can try to get it working... i could always get it replaced, but ive put receipt somewhere... will probably be able to find it if i tried, but then my next problem is i work nights, and the time i finish work the shop aint open to take it back... and the time i wake up to go to work... it has shut...


so bit of a problem... ive heard rub aftershave on it off one person, but i was talkin about this to someone else and they said it might be to strong :S

ive also heard floor pollish lol....



any ideas :S

I use Turtlewax car polish or T-cut. It works great as Ive repaired quite a few cds using it.

Don't own any pollish / wax at all will have to get some... how effective is it??? id try show you how deep the scratch is but ive only got a 2mp cam phone so probs wont show up :S

Ouch, bad scrape is that..
I've used toothpaste before too, seems to work, I applied it with clean non-lint cloth, then cleaned off with a damp cloth. Allowed it to dry naturally then tried it. Won't get rid of the surface marks but should play.

2. What is the best way of rubbing it on?

3. How thick should the paste be on the disk?

4. How much pressure do you apply when cleanin it off? dont wanna make it any worse :rasp:

5. Whats the best brand of toothpaste to use Got some colgate at the moment... will that do? :rasp::rasp:

6. What are the risks of this causing damage to my xbox if i don't do it right ;x

I havnt used toothpaste before but when using the T-cut etc I applied as much pressure as I could and buffed the scratches off.

Toothpaste is probably a bit more abrassieve so Id say start with little pressure and and then add a bit more if it looks like its not doing anything.

The cd protective layer your polishing is quite thick so you should worry as I cant see you making it worse.

tiny amounts, probably the exact same amount as what you put in your mouth when brushing your teeth

same as you was applying the paste, nice and smooth but not too rough, again same as cleaning the cd

didn't think better brands would make any difference tbh, they all do the same type of job, colgate will do.

Not many tbh, the only thing that'd be affected is the cd itself as it doesn't physically touch anything other than the spindle it sits on. Optical lens is just a laser so it doesn't touch that, but with any eletric/electronic item, make sure the cd is dry.

Or try T-cut as raceys suggested, never tried that personally.

I have the older version and it usually works well on scratched disks, providing the scratch isn't too deep.

Yeah, my mate uses Pledge polish and/or T-Cut. Works for him. I usually just throw the CD away, but with it being an expensive disc, you should try everything I suppose :dapprove:

just send the disk to scratch busters and they will sort it for less than £4 inc postage. I got mine back after being royally fooked up by my last 360's DVD drive burning it and putting large circular scratches on it... it's fine now

It looks like a laser burn and I dont think they are repairable. I think it like burns the date inside the disc and makes it unplayable. Don't quote me on this..thats what one of my friends told me.
