Security worries

About a week ago my brother arrived home, as he was pulling into the car park (its under cover with about space for 10 cars) , two lads were very suspicously looking at my car. So he asked them what they were doing, they replied they were lost (what a load of bull).

So a couple of days later it was in the local paper that 6 cars had been stolen around the town in one night (Gone in 60 seconds style hehe). Well anyway, i dare not go to sleep now incase the theiving scum return

I havent heard much of 172s getting nicked but i guess these days they can pretty much take anything they set their eyes on

So what i want to know is, what else can i do? Its got standard cat1 and immobiliser.

Is this enough to put them off?

Clamp it, get stickers, get steering lock, handbrake lock.......The more preventions the better.

If u got the dollar, get a Clifford concept 300, and add the proximity and glass breaker sensors. In total itll cost ya around £450, but least it gives u peace of mind.

Thats if u cant fit them to the alarm u already have?

get 1 of the steering locks that has like 15,000 volts running through it, and go to south africa and get a flame througher kit intsalled, get a rotty stick him in the back of the car train him not to sh*t or piss, and then when the f**kers come back u can leave the doors wide open they aint got a friggin chance

also could always try taking the dizzy cap ht lead off, not many thiefs carry them around, get doors delocked and de handled then get a steel 1" thick bar welded in to the door frames so they cant bend the doors over, get the saftey glass sh*t stuck on ya windows( holds glass together when the window is smashed making it pretty impossible to get in through the windows,

get a snap off steering wheel, get cobra carbon fiber bucketseats with some quick release bolts made up so when u park it u can take the seats with u, get 4 diff makes of locking nuts and make sure each wheel have 4 diff brands of locking nut on em.

get air bag suspention, and when u park lower it so much that the bottom of the car is on the floor so they cant jack it and so they cant get rims off.

get an armed body guard to stand by your car to protect it.



apart from that i think i pretty much covered all areas

Alternatively go made on the stereo etc. get smart nav and get the tracker extra which is good value.

get yourself a BIG Yellow Disclok

Then get a clifford concept alarm (id go for the 600 personally as the wireless immobiliser is the bees knees).

Tracking systems are pretty good but not much of a visable deterrent (which i take it your after?)

Hope that helps (oh should say that dont get G*P security to fit your clifford unless you want lots of problems).

yeah but the 172 has the immmobiler build into the ECU....and it has its own cat. 1 alarm...tell me how they would steal it without towing it away?

Well thanks for all the suggestions guys! Im going for an upgrade alarm, clifford (unsure which at the mo). Steering lock, for a deterrant. Possibly think of a tracker at a later date.

172gal....save your money and go for the disklok...your car should already have an alarm....Cliffords are good, 75% of clifford owners are satisfied..but i would seriously consider a Toad Ai606 cat.1 which comes with a compact siren to fit under the bonnet.



Trackers are good, i would personally just go for the tracker working along side the cat. 1 alarm with inbuilt not theftable immmobilser

172 Gal....try the Toad Ai606 cat.1 alarm...its cheaper does the same job as clifford without the gimmicks...stay away from Gap sercuirty advertised in max power...heard bad reports..The toad can be fitted with a compact battery backup siren needed for under the bonnet.

But the secret with any alarm installation is a good fitting firm...heard good reports for maximum impact in leeds.

To be honest i would use the factory cat 1. alarm and indestructbal ecu immobiliser and fit a tracker and disklok from costco instead

i think silver looks nicer but Yellow would stand out more as a deterent which is the main aim really.

Remember seing a company a while back selling gear locks that were fitted onto the floor next to the gear lever, locking the car in reverse gear (similar to the old Saab 900 system..... just cant remember the companys name

Having 2ks worth of security on my car i think i may be an expert here and as no one seemed to listen or take any notice of my first post ill point a few things out.

1. DONT get a toad alarm, instead save a few more pennies and go for a clifford concept 5 or 600, the blackjax anti hijack unit alone is the bees knees and you wont get one of those on a toad

2. DO buy a disclok, bright and yellow, takes seconds to put on and take off, its one of the best visable deterents you can buy.

3. Only go for a tracker if you can afford it, prevention is your first concern, recovery your second (im not saying dont get one but get your priorities right to start with).

4. DONT rely on the factory fitted alarm, these can be bypassed with ease by most car thieves due to the way they are put in the car (ie all the same way).

I should mention that the blackjax unit on the clifford does invalidate your cat 1 status so you will have to speak to your insurance co to see if its ok to have it active (and id keep it active as i know of a few cars that have been saved by this device!!)

Would like to point out that things like stering wheel locks etc are generally only a good visual deterent - you would be amazed how quickly they can be broken and removed by some thieves!!

Second point is buy a shotgun

My point about clifford alarms are yes they are popular...there arent many firms whom can fit them well....25% - 30% of clifford alarm owners have problems.....most of the add-ons are gimmicks....toads vers cliffords....toad is better value for money...thieves can bypass factory fit alarms.....very few can bypass inbuild ecu immobilisers..if none....

There was a guy on scoobynet a couple of weeks ago had his imprezza type R in the car dealership overnight...the garage was broken into....although the thieves had no keys....they were ableo to work on the car, remove the clifford alarm so i believe and get rid of the tracking device and to this day probably hasnt been found....security devices give time and everyone should have them....cliffords can be bypassed , so can toads, pirahanha alarms etc....having a good install makes it harder.

Tumbleweed, you may actually find that the type R impreza (the correct spelling btw ) had the keys removed and were not there when the car was taken (ie they went with the car).

Also, said place in question has a bit of a reputation (thus the reason im not mentioning it) for car thefts.

A clifford is also better value than the equivelent toad, how many toad alarms come with an anti hijack system that has proven to be 100% effective? (i think the rate is zero )

I also pointed out about G*P but im not one for going for liable and adding an "A" in there as i too have heard many stories about bad installation of clifford an other alarms.

Toad v Clifford...... get the right installer and the clifford wins hands down (toad are somewhat easier to install and dont take much brain power, ill let you figure that one out )
