Service + Belt change = Warning light?

  Nissan 350z
Hi all,

Just had a full service and belts changed to the tune of £603 at a local garage. Went to drive to work this morning and down the road noticed i had a nice warning light (the heartbeat monitor and coil symbol looking one) and the car refused to go above 2.5k revs regardless of gear!

Got to work, parked up and turned the engine off. Turned it back on and no warning light... wtf?

Is this going to be a Renault CLIP test jobby? :(

If its gone leave it for a few days and see if it returns. Might have just been having a funny do, they do that sometimes. If it comes back i'm guessing it will need a clip.

Cheers for the input. Is the 2.5k rev limit some sort of limp mode?

The real test will be this evening when i leave work and attempt to drive home :/

Well it happened AGAIN!

Started driving home from work and immediately noticed the fault light was back and the car was once again in Limp mode. Managed to drive it back the short 3min commute and called in at the garage that did the work to show them and ask wtf!

Connected it up and got the following codes:
x2 : 301. Brake pedal sensor
x2 : 95. Circut pedal position sensor
x1 : 297. Pedal pretentiometer track 1 circut.

They cleared the codes off and they havent reappeared. Im very skeptical at this however because i managed to drive home and park up after picking it up from the garage last night without them appearing as well.

Funny how the above refer to the pedals and they changed my rear brake pads during the service. Coincidence?

Well clearing the errors didnt work. It happened again when i tried to drive to work this morning so i took it straight back to the garage first thing and im now driving some crappy Peugeot deisel thing urgh.

I suppose i better lube up ready?

Garage called.

Said its the accelerator pedal assembly (or whatever the units called) thats at fault and i need a new one which i have to pay for. Fair enough. What i dont get is how was i able to drive the car around for hundreds of miles with no error codes and then after being worked on by them its suddenly broken?

I honestly cant afford to have the work done and the huge service wiped me out. Guess im going to have a useless Clio parked up until payday at the end of the month.

Im honestly speechless.

Surely you can stress the issue appeared after they worked on it ? I hate garages, I have never found one I trust, if I can do the work myself I do.

The garage in question is a member of: http://www.boschcarservice.co.uk/ chain. So isnt even a dodgy backstreet guy in a shed style.

The response to my complaint was: "Electrical faults such as this are intermittent. It was probably there all along and we merely highlighted it not caused it." Which i can understand but doesnt in my opinion make it acceptable. Its like saying "your tyre had a slow leak so we punctured it to highlight" :(

Aparently since clearing the 5 error codes above only 1 keeps reoccuring which is why they are telling me the whole pedal assembly needs changing. I will post up when i find out what the code is later and exactly how much they reckon i have to pay when i collect it after work.

can you source a pedal assembly from ebay or cliospares?
http://www.cliospares.co.uk/ parts from there will carry a small warranty, but will be considerably cheaper
at leat then dude you dont fork out major bucks for a brand new part and it turn out not to be the cause!

If its the pedal can't really blame them as they don't touch it with a service (other than driving it) If you can't afford to get them to fix it do it yourself, think its fairly easy to swap and you can probably buy the pedal off ebay/on here.

Well they must have ragged it to note on the service report "knock under hard acceleration - suspect engine mount" as something i need to look out for in the future. Even i didnt know it did that!

No other warning light than the 1 pictured in the middle of this *pic* (stole someone elses pic as im at work)

The next question is if the garage caused this do i trust them to put it right without getting a whole list of things replaced before finding the culprit? :/

tbh i think the pedal assembly isnt too difficult to replace, someone correct me if im wrong though. Or take it to a renault specialist

Bought from Schweppy thanks for that. Ive been quoted by the garage about £90 for 2hrs labour and resetting of the ECU, testing etc.

Time to twiddle my fingers and see if this works!

  SchwepTek™
£90! Why?

Fit it yourself and it should be fine.

I think you can do a basic reset by holding in the trip computer stalk button and when turning the ignition on and then by pressing the milometer reset button.

Just for future reference Sargara, MGC in Nottingham (Renault Specialist) are fantastic. My Mrs had new CAM + AUX belts fitted, as well as a new water pump to her Clio 1.2 Extreme and they charged her £292. They gave her a courtesy car as well.

They have done many belt changes and services on 172/182's and I'll be taking mine there in a few months for the same work that you have just had done.

Lol bit late now! Oh well i will keep that in mind for future thanks pete.

Ive never heard anyone else on here mention them before however. I thought the closest decent renault specialist we had was Hillpower over near Tamworth?

Figured i would bite the bullet and just drive to work in limp mode but managed to make it all the way to work with no warning lights or limp mode. The car is now fine for now. Result as im still waiting for Schweppys part :)

Bit cautious of going to a garage now about my belt, it was sounding a bit lose the other week, the RAC man (Who came out to fix my fiesta) said that Clio belts had a tendency to just snap, is this true?
