Shud i put a roll cage in or not?

  Clio 1.8 8v RSi
Hello, sorry if this is posted in the wrong place it seemed the right one tho :S

Iv now stripped out my RSI a few days ago including taking out the spare wheel....

I have been thinking about saving up for K-Tecs roll cage but the one i like is £400 roughly...

.........

But now the last few days have been wondering, should i waste £400 on a roll cage which will add more weight, Or instead just carpet the back without the cage?

I know a roll cage would look the shizzle' but im after as much weight loss as poss...

So im sat here wondering what i shud do? :S

Your thoughts please, thankyou :D

leave the rear seats in if you dont get a cage i dont reckon it would look right but looking at that cage i would say yes get the cage think it looks the nuts

Hmmm, i really dont want the rear seats to go back in though :dapprove:[/QUOTE]

you need a cage to finish the job off then i would say

Depends if you want as much weight loss as you can get or whether you want a roll cage just for show...

PS I would just tint the windows a bit so that you can't see in the back very easily from outside. Job done.

youve half stripped the interor. look at those plastics.

as for the cage....£400 on a show one. £400 on a sparco or OMP puropse one.

hmmmm, take your pick.

cage it up either way though±

Ok cheers. Yeah i will remove the plastics this week. Iv got a bit of a project for the back so ill post up pics as i go. Cheers

If its a real cage then yes, as the extra weight will be offset by the chassis becoming stiffer, so its a worthy compramise.

if its a show cage, then save your cash!

agreed.

I'd leave the cage idea alone tbh, unles your plannig on tracking the car.

Oh really, well yeah i could guess what they would think about it! Ok well what would you sugest i shud do? Iv already got ideas without the cage but more ideas would help :D

carpet the back and leave the cage out, get some smart seats an just a rear strut for the belts an will look smart.

See if u can get some rear carbon panels for the side if ur taking the plastics off.

There we go, you musta read my mind as thats what i planned on doing, and i tested that my Harnesses will reach all the way back to the rear strut and they do :D

Oh but my plans with the carpet was as carpet is a pain to keep clean was going to chequer plate it but do you think that will look awful?
Cheers

Depends, i dont think it looks bad in small quantitys but the whole boot would look shocking. Id defo go for carpet. or if uv got the time and money go for leather as that would be easy to clean and look cracking imo.

I dunno thinkin about it it mite not look too bad with chequer plating but i wouldnt bother wasting the time on doing it.

If the belts reach the strut brace then theres ur answer, no need for a roll cage. Saves u alot of money not getting one. and will look smarter without.

^^^ Same model as mine that, but one thing id do straight away is pull that bloody aerial down so it dont look like a sky scraper lol!
Is ur single wiper any good? cause i was considering one for mine but heard they aint too good.
Have u had it lowered?? if so by how much cause looks lower than mine!

Lol, the ariel dont move mate! Already had some1 try push it down but it wont budge! I dont listen to the radio (as i cant find the radio adaptor) so ill try remove it tomorrow if its possible too!

The wiper looks good but when it comes to heavy rain on the motor way i wouldnt bother! Its slow even on full speed, im even thinking about changing back to two but i wont as it looks good!lol

It is lowered 40mm all round i think as i bought it like it is and its sitting on 17s too! I still want some 15s or 16s but working on the interior first.

Ill buy some carpet then, sod the plating if you recon it will look shocking (and its £50 just for 100cm x 100cm!) And ill put down a thin layer of wood to work on and make it all smooth :D

lol that second pic is givin me a headache lol wit the blur/zoom.

Aye id do that wit the carpet and wood if i were u, an like u said the plating is expensive and wouldnt look as good. Iv finally found someone (off here) thats offered to lower mine for me so should be getting that done soon.

Looks smart though mate overall. get a pic up of when uv done the boot an lets see how it looks cause tbh im thinkin of doing the same in mine cause i cant be arsd giving lifts all the time lol. no back seats = no lifts.

hey sambo where did u get the carpet from to match with the original stuff??

cheers

A company down here in Bude (cornwall) called Cornwall Car & Audio. Was £10 per square meter, but i ended up with 130cm square..only £13. Bargin! Theyve got a big roll of it, i cant remember what its called, basically just asked for standard blackish grey carpet and thats what they gave me.
