Sky Price Changes!

Has

  RS 182 - Black Gold
Has anyone read the letter that comes with the monthly book?

Sky are upping there prices again!! Not much but they will reap the rewards from it.

Think there getting money back from there HD losses.

:dapprove:

FFS, I'm seriously thinking of cancelling it when the 12 months are up it's getting far too expensive for what it is.

My parents cancelled it and then the rang up 3 days later and offered it to them for half price for 6 months, worth doing it just for that!

I think my mom was paying £50 a month for all the channels. Takes the piss!
We have since cut it and i think she now pays under £30.

Don't get me started on this s**t. I'll never get rid of Sky and I'll always keep the top package, but this constant increase every 6 months is a f**king joke.

It's up to something like £43.95 a month now for all the channels.

They have us over a barrel and there's nothing we can do about it.

Got that, with Multiroom (+£10) and HD (+£10) + Insurance (+£8ish I think?)

Not cheap :p

I need to get HD at some point. I didn't realise they added a further £10 for it, I thought it was FOC if you kept the top channel package?

  Citroen DS3 DSport
When I started working for Sky in Dec 1999 I'm sure the top package was £34 per month, when I left in 2003 it was £38. They are a ripoff.

£10 a month HD subscription no matter which package you are on. You receive your Sky+HD sub for free on HD, same as on the standard Sky+ box.

what HD losses?

I presume they're not making a profit on the HD service because of the investment they've had to make on the plaform, if they're not making a profit then they're making a loss.

well all i know is that HD Sky is booked up till september and charging 300 a box plus 10 a month. (imo its worth it though) with every new technology you have to take a loss at the beggining

Sky don't own the satellite, any third party (as in sky are a third party too) can by transponder space and start broadcasting - due to ofcom these channels can buy a space in the Sky EPG and sky are obliged to provide.

There's an awful lot of sh*te channels on sky that I'm sure they would prefer wern't there.

Obviously if the channel wants encryption, then they have to do this via sky as the digiboxes don't have a CI interface.

That said, it's a total rip, the packages encompass far too many crappy channels.

Give me Sky One, Sky Sports 1, 2 and 3, and Discovery and I'd be a happy man! Sounds identical to what you watch, and I'm sure there's a huge potential subscriber base who'd want just those channels, but that's not maximising profits though :(

You have to seriously think about what you watch imo, £43.50 gets you one hell of a lot of movie rentals in a month!

I have Freeview only now as the documentary channels always get sneaked into the top packages only which frustrates the hell out of me (none of the programming is "in-house", so why charge the top amount?!). E4, More4, Sky Sports News, all the BBC channels and a few others on Freeview are more than enough for me. If I want to watch a movie I will rent it.

I'm sure getting a few quality channels like Discovery on Freeview would see huge numbers of people moving over, looks unlikely to ever happen though

I called about that. Took out sh*t loads of channels I don't watched and saved a whopping £1.70 a month... Couldn't be arsed in the end.

there the exact channels I watch, but obviously they know that these are there top channels, so make you take all the shite with them to make you feel you getting more for your £40, but in reality, your paying that just for those. bummer

i've just been looking though my sky+ stuff (250Gb so there's quite a bit) and realised that everything i record from is available on freeview!! think it's time to get a freeview PVR. save the £40/month. can i do without soccer am though?!?!?

freeview be even better now film4 is free :)
