SKY + Problems

  Hondata'd EP3 Type R
This has happened quite a few times now, So wasn't a 1 off. Every no and then when I record something to Sky Plus, Whe nI come to watch it the sound custs out every few seconds and arewas of the screen go pixelated! This makes the programme/movie un watchable!!

Any one else got this?

Yep got that here too. Engineer came on saurday and defragged the disk and downloaded the latest firmware and said see how it goes. Well its still doing it and having another engineer coming on Friday.

We get the same thing aas you but most of the time it happens when you are recording one channel, switch to watch another channel and the channel you are watching breaks up badly. The box we have is an Amstrad A20B015 and is about 3 years old.

Hoping to get a new box off them on Friday.

Would of been £65 i think but we took out an extended warrenty as we have multi room and it covers both boxes. Didnt have to pay for the call out though.

We're on our 3rd Sky+ box now. First one just lost all the recordings randomly, got that replaced and then started getting the problem you guys are seeing. Now on 3rd box and all is well so far.

The box we had with your problem was the Amstrad box too, i think its a problem they suffer from. We now have a Thomson box.

sounds like you all need new boxes does it break up when watching it normally. iam a sky engineer and its quite a common problem:cool:

  RIP Dan
A common problem is that the boxes are refurbed sh!te, with the cheapest components known to man.

Alan Sugar didnt make himself £800million by putting good components in his products!

Is it not just your signal? As in during bad weather etc.

The problem isn't with the boxes, it is with the poor quality hard drives that they install in them. If you take the cover off you will most likely find that a Segate drive is installed (irrespective of the make of the box) which aren't particularly good. It is possible to install a Hitachi or Samsung drive but only up to a max size of 160Gb I think. There are plenty of walkthrough's on the net of how to do this.

YEah, mine went a while back and had a refurbed one that did exactly the same so demanded a new one. After they brought around yet another refurbished one that did the same I got my new box. Sky are sh1t

Seagate HDD's are a good qaility disc...i'm an sky accredied engineer too, i've swapped loadsss of boxes over for this reason, i've no idea what causes it....when you get a swap from an engineer always try and blag a thompson or pace as the amstrad is the worst of the bunch (if the engineer has them on the van that is)

Our new box is a Thomson, seems noisier than the old box, not sure if its just the noise from the disk spinning or whether it has a fan in it. Seems OK though, got some other option in the menus about Sky Anytime TV, which I thought was the program on the computer that allows you to download movies and sport. Anyone shead any light on what this means on the sky box??

d.brown - threaten to leave, you'll get a free service call :)

telfords_lurk - you must've had a pvr1/2 before and now it's been replaced with a pvr3, only the pvr3 is capable of ANYTIME, it basically records a selection of porgrams each week when it has a free tuner (usually at night, you may notice its more active too) you can then press the red button in your planner and browse for something you'd like to watch, most of the stuff is crap bar the movies tbh!

you'll also have auto standby - does exactly what it says on the tin :D

Ahh, cool, will have to see what its recorded them. I think it must be a latest box, although I wasnt at home when the engineer came, apparently he told my mum that theres good and bad news when he came back in from the van. Bad news - not got another box the same as the one he was taking out, Good news - the new one has 40hrs recording and the old one only had 20hrs so the new one is better, also slightly narower than the old one.

Sky anytime is the biggest pile of tripe going. Virgin have completely kicked their arse when it comes to on demand content. and the V+ box is way better than the sky+ box. God I hate sky :(

Sounds to me like you had a pvr1 my man, they're bloody ancient!

VM may be superior with their technology andy, but sky have everyone with their content - no match is there really?
