Slight humming noise when moving.

Does this imply a wheel bearing is shot?

Seems to happen as speed builds up but then I can't hear it once I start going faster. Maybe because of other noise covering it up.

Also seems to be coming from behind me.

How do I test the wheel bearings? Jack the car up and wobble the wheel around when it's suspended?

Cheers

Sounds like it.

WHen my rear bearings let go it sounded like I was just dragging the boot along the floor.

jack up each wheel, give it a spin, listen for a grumbly noise

grumbly noise = ferked bearing

3 good tests for wheel bearings.

Easiest is to take the car for a long drive and then feel each of the wheels close to the centre cap in pairs (front, front) then (rear, rear). Both sides should be the same temperature. If one is hotter than the corresponding opposite side then it's like the gone one. Increase resistance = temp up

Next would be jack the car up and check for play with hands at 12 and 6 o'clock and then at 3 and 9. Make sure the hand brake isn't on though as this would ruin the check on the back.

Last test is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzB-V8CrSn8

On the back I would hold on to the axle at the closest point to the stub.

Hope that helps mate.
