spacers?

i really want to change the 17's my clio 172 is currently riding on, preferably to something smaller as i find the handling is effected. But someone has told me to get some 15mm hubcentric spacers to aide in the handling. anyone have an opinion?

Why do you need spacers ?? seems to the 'in thing' on here lately for people to run them, I don't get it.

Stock setup is very good spacers do have disadvanatges and unless you ned them if wheels rub etc I woulnd't bother personaly.
