Speaker line to phono

How are these converters for speaker output to phono made up? Is there anything specail about them? Halfords want £8 for the cable but cant I just use a normal phono extention kit and cut the ends off or does it need to be specailly grounded? Are they supported to have a gain box also or should that just be controlled at the amp end?

They have a transformer inside them. I assume youre talking about a line output transformer?

Yeah for connecting an amp to the standard HU. Its not exactly the best method but apart from getting a new HU to match its the cheapest way.

Where exactly are you talking about running the cable? from the line output transformer to the amp?
