Speedo goes on and off

Hi

My speedo in my 172 works when i start a journey but will suddenly just go off and go to 0
It will sometimes pop back up and start working again but not too often.
any advice on what it may be before I debate taking it to a garage.

As above, just had to buy one myself, IIRC it's about £26 from dealer.

Speedo drive.

13 quid on eBay. Not as good quality as genuine but still last a couple years.

Yes thats it.

Remove the heatshield
Take the wiring plug off
Remove sensor making sure you notice which way it goes in (there are two tabs sticking out that only go in one way)

Then without meaning to sound too haynes manual "refitting is the reverse of removal"
