Standard head unit

Am I right in assuming the standard (Ph2) Clio 172 head unit is not compatible with iPhones as I'm looking at connecting my iPhone to the car and running music through it?

You can connect it via a 3.5mm "aux" lead. If you buy the CD-changer to aux lead adaptor to plug into the back of the headunit. No idea how much these are, PM a guy on here called Matt (username MT_Audio) This lead is only compatible with the tuner/update list stereo (can't rememer which one!)

In short, get a non-chavy non-ripspeed decent brand Headunit and it looks ok. I had a 2009 era Sony that fitted in really nicely with it's orange/red buttons (they did look quite bland back then, which was a positive) Modern Alpine units look alright too if you get the red/orange backlit ones.

EDIT: Or you can get a "Renault Tunepoint." Think these are about £50, they sit in your glove box and allow you to connect USB/aux/iPod USB cable. Again these plug into the 6-cd-changer part so you need a tuner/update list stereo (again, can't remember which is which)

Depends what your wanting to do, u can get adaptors for the standard hu so you can connect your phone etc for music but as for controlling the iphone dont think you can get anything for that, i have an update list hu and i made my own cable to connect my phone search google lots of info on there

I'm really only wanting to play music from my iPhone through the standard head unit & speakers. So I'm just after the easiest/cheapest way.

only problem with the aux lead adaptor is that they are temperamental buggers, we supply armorautomotive ones in halfords but due to many not working with OEM HU's they're not regarded as a reliable solution, here's a connects2 one you could try http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/conn...o-megane-scenic-interface-adaptor-p-8743.html ,but in all honesty you can get a decent ipod/phone compatible HU which will allow you to control playlists set up on the pod/phone (therefore staying legal, unless you intend to get a cradle for the phone), also a new HU will also provide you with better sound quality through the existing speakers - win win :)

I actually made my own lead from an old 3.5 mm to phono lead works spot on never had an issue and like i said was free so even better im sure u cn get a lead from ebay for a few quid though if u dont want to make your own i woudnt bother with the connects 2 tbh especially when you can do the same for far cheaper

Is the CD-changer an optional extra when they were new? Not sure if my 182 has one, would it be under the passenger seat?
