Steering column lock issue.

Swapped my steering wheel over today and I noticed that the steering column lock doesn’t engage? Now I have doubts if it’s ever worked or if me taking the original wheel off has disrupted something relating to the lock.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

I don't think there's anything you can mess with when taking the wheel off which would affect the steering lock 🤔

Yeah neither did I so probably just a coincidence.

However I wonder how I can fix my issue?

Good question.

I've never messed with the column really.

I know the lock barrel comes out, there's a grub screw holding it in and then I think you have to turn the key to remove it.

Fairly common for it not working, mine does not work on my blue dci. New barrel to sort, wouldnt bother personally.

Highly unlikely unless very pendantic tester. Its only anti theft related really.

Wont be a fail as separate immobiliser, mot manual says

7.3. Anti-theft device

You only need to inspect the anti-theft device on M1 vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2001 with a steering lock as an anti-theft device fitted as original equipment.

It’s acceptable for a steering lock to be missing or not working as long as the vehicle has an engine immobiliser, or a permanently installed immobilisation device which acts on either the steering, brakes or the transmission.

Some electronic steering locks, generally on vehicles with keyless ignition systems, will only activate when the driver’s door is opened or closed.

If it’s not practical to check if a steering lock is working, you should give the benefit of the doubt.
