Steering Play

  '18 Megane dci

Ive just arrived home, turned full lock to get on the driveway as usual and heard an almighty metallic DONG noise come from my drivers side front suspension area. Got out and all seemed fine so went for another drive to check all was ok. My steering from left to right now seems to be less solid and has more play in it.

Went home again, pulled onto the drive again (no DONG), turned off the engine and the play in the steering still seemed much more than before. Does anyone have any ideas what could have happened before I call the dealers? it also seems to follow the roads imperfections much more than before.

Thanks.

did you hit the kerb at force? If its pulling then could be a cracked suspension spring (min £125 each...owch for a reno one) Maybe the spring just moved a bit and then re-aligned itself.

Wasnt going fast at all, the kerb is about 1 inch high, think ill call the dealers in the new year, see what they can see.

May not be the same thing but over the last fortnight Ive developed some sort of play in the steering on my 2003 dynamique...mainly when from moving from a standstill if turning slighty...a knock feeds up the steering column and thats all ull hear of it for a while.

cars been lowered 35mm on eibach springs...lemmie know what u find out...im gonna ask renault to take a look when they fix the suroof (touch wood) on the 16th of jan

thats what you get for lowering it. it puts more pressure on it so your gonna feel the bumps, plus any pot-hole that you hit causes your car to pull the opposite way. tell the tw*ts that you want the full seal and handle doing. Im gonna have my s/r done next year and there will be hell to pay if they dont put some effort in this time (4th).

what could cause them to break though? Ive only had them on the car for about 5000 miles and Im not particularly over agressive in my driving style.

this is an old post but im just going to add to this.

i smashed into a curb at 25mph & my steering got messed up. went really really loose & it cost £300 to fix it.

a few nights ago i clipped a curb going at like 5mph coming out a junction & i think it has effectd my steering again, cause im sure its starting to get looser. hope u got it fixed mate.
im really really worried, cause my dad says he aint paying to fix anything again & ive got NO income cause im still at school.
