Stretching the gears

Right... need a bit of help.

Got in my clio 182 cup earlier and give it a little drive and popped up my mates house.. on the way i took the car to the limit (only 3 times). I noticed the car was limiting at 6400ish.. previously i've stretched the gears and its limited at 7000/7200 no problems...

Anyone know why this is or experienced it themselves?

Because the engine is not up to temp?

Its to do with the coolant temp sensor IIRC, if it doesnt quite get up to the set temp, I forget what it is, it uses a lower rpm limiter. There's basically a "cold limiter" before it allows the full 7200rpm!

There are two rev limits.

A cold one : 6800
And a full operating temperature one: 7200

Thats why.

hmm maybe... im pretty sure though the engine was up to temp, it was a good 10-15mins into driving it?

you need at least 15 mins to get the oil up to temp, the water warms up in around ten mins but it all depends on outside temp, driving style etc.

I've noticed my rev limit being around 6600rpm, but when warm I've found it revs almost up to 8k.

saying that, I could have possibly found the reason as to why my conrod let go

Mine used to go to 8k cold or otherwise

Bear in mind you could have a faulty coolant temp sensor, which could be telling the ecu the engine is always cold

Or a faulty thermostat not allowing the engine to reach temperature
