Stripped out every day cars ??

  172 ph1 2.4 transit
Who has got a stripped out clio for everyday use ??

Recently finished with the GF so been thinking about stripping out the 172 and fitting Magnum buckets and harness's and a cage ready for some track and poss ringuse :) !!

Whats anyones thoughts ??

do it.

makes a gd diff in performance/handling.

altho i have to have the rear bench in, with lap belt only, for doing the school run with...... and lets face it. the 1*2 seats arent exactly the comfiest places in the world to be.

ive had about 5 cars fully stripped! no speakers, sound deadning just the dash and a seat and i did 24 miles a day min! i loved it, such a raw drive and it helps wake you up in the mourning lol

also go careful with magnum, ive heard some bad stories about them recently, only down the road from me...

a lad i know ordered some seats, they asked for deposit of 50%....6 weeks went by of them ignoring phone calls and saying yeah we're starting them next week, they hadnt even taken a deposit from his card, but had his details saved.......needless to say he cancelled the order

mines mega stripped and i use it every day, no heaters, dash, cd player, nothing. but im bored to f**k of it now, specially with all poly windows....its annoying as hell! cant wait to get it off the road for good

mine's too loud WITH a full interior. I'd never strip out a daily personally, Leave that for weekend toys.
It would utterly put me off buying a car too

Firend of mine has used magnum. Took him ages to get his bonnet. I wouldnt touch them. Again not far from me.

Foxy im only in Widnes too mate so local to me thats why i thought of them :) !! Im not to bothered about as my daily commute is only 4 miles and ive onley had people twice in the back in the last 12 months of ownership !!

Don't think I could use mine as a daily, maybe in the summer but not the winter/rain!

All I have is a seat, dash, harness! You should do it though :p

  ibiza cupra
a couple of my mates have got there daily drivers stripped and they love it but i think it would do my head in every day.

Mine's not exactly 'stipped', but I have no rear seats just buckets and harnesses. Do about 16k a year in em, never bothered me in the slightest! If you get the 'right' seats and harnesses it's easy to live with imo.

Stripped cars are a pain in the f**king ass for everyday use.

Not for me thank you.

Agreed with every1 and i have one.

Pain in the ass.

Did it to my 182, regretted it and changed it back.

Now done it to my 172, regretting it and want something else...

You don't need the extra performance to commute and no one will think you are a hero for doing it. Pointless waste of time for a road/occasional track car. Who can be arsed with harnesses at junction when you need to be able to lean forward to get a view of the road you are about to join. Increased noise gets annoying on a longer trip. You can't take friends anywhere and all your shopping ends up on display for people to pinch.

Also what's with removing heaters? You need to be able to clear your windscreen?

completely right, it took me about three days of climbing over the cage to be sick of it, and that was after not driving it for more than a year!

I dont see it as a problem, its too much of a handful in the wet anyway. Easy solution, keep the screen clean, and use a cloth to wipe the screen IF it steams up, which it has yet to do. Or you just buy a heated front screen for £200.

Ive only been using it as a daily over summer, hence why its going off the road for good, and now that ive got the money another car is being purchased.

The heater and blowers were removed as the idea was to remove as much weight as possible, which is what ive done. Not some half arsed effort like most people seem to make.

I'm sure by law you need a way of demisting the windows? Certainly in a proper racing car a lot of rules require it...but then a lot of track day specials don't come anywhere close to the same levels of prep....so the excuse about leaving them in being half arsed is nonsense.

Now I'd like to see someone strapped in with harnesses trying to demist their screen with a cloth on the end of a stick, cause that's the only way I can imagine you being able to do it on the move.

Like you say you used your car in summer, would be a different story now and into winter.

Not having a go at you but no heaters and no dashboards are two big pet hates on 'stripped' cars, there is literally no need.

I have no cage in my Cup but it does have a fixed bucket seat and 3 point harnesses as well as being stripped to the bare metal.

Day to day use? No problem. I've never had the problem of not being able to see due to harnesses no matter how tight I strap myself in, and so long as you accept you don't have acres of cubby holes to store pointless s**te in, it really is no problem.

Apart from the slow getaways and undignified entrance/exit that is.

Mine is supposed to be retired from daily use in favour of my Focus but I get it in the neck constantly from my misses as I've "taken that bloody Clio again" to work.

there is no requirement for heaters as far as I know, its definitely not in the MOT anyway. Weather there is a 'law' for it is another matter, ive never had a problem on the many occasions ive been stopped...

Why would you need to faff still sat in the seat, it takes 30 seconds to safely pull over, wipe it off and put the harness back on. Either way, Ive tended to not drive it when its raining at all over the summer, it was never meant for winter as said.

I wasn't actually referring to the heaters being half arsed, i was just referring to everyone who removes the rear bench and goes 'my cars stripped', because simply its not!

As for dashboard not being needed, I dont see why, as its really literally not in my case. I have two switches in the whole car, no heater controls or cd player so there is no purpose for it being there....not to mention it wouldn't fit with the cage in anyway, the bulkhead bar is in the way.

I use my track car everyday. Its got fixed buckets, 4 point harnesses, fully stripped (but i've still got my heater , and aircon ;)).

Its quite loud, well very loud if i'm been honest. I quickly loosen off the harnesses at junctions have a quick peek, then go for it and tighten them up. Yes i will be f**ked if someone crashes into me but meh!

I kept stripping stuff out and then thinking i can put it all back in and sell it as a normal 182, but i'v taken out so many parts then it would take me months to figure out where it all goes again.

BASICALY if your going to strip it out for "Track Use", then do it properly and keep it as a track car.

IMO :)

I've only taken out rear bench, seat belts and carpets and I use my car daily. It's just right for me and still a noticeable difference in performance.

By no means stripped of course, i couldn't be arsed with that but, for me, it's a nice inbetween.

This is what im planning to start with then see where it goes ;)

back seats gone, original frontseats changed for 6,3kg Sparco buckets (semi buckets, comfy - with sliders ;) ) Also a lot easier getting in+ out the car with these instead of full buckets !

around 40kg weight saved with the above mentioned. Real nice daily driver, damn lot of weight loss and very noticable ! My cup was on the weigh-bridge , comes at 960 kg . Imagine the fun with a small 200 hp

I would never take out the dash , door panels , etc. if i'm not tracking it. This is just right for daily driving.

my 172 is stripped out and i use it on a daily basis. can be annoying for some things like no boot area for things not to be left on show, or for the weekly shop etc - it just slides around everywhere. so for this reason we use the gf's car for pretty much everything.

but for fun factor - its sound :)

Pain in the arse for daily use. Effectively renders the boot useless. I really don't like the idea of my jack etc smacking me in the back of the head in an accident.

Mines not totally stripped. Rear seats, Isofix and soon the rear seatbelt reels.
Makes a difference, and its definitely noisier.
If you can put up with it making noises from the rear end that you couldn't hear before (especially with coilovers) then its easy to live with.
Just have to get used to the passenger footwell becoming the boot.

Mine will soon be a weekend toy again as im buying an oil burner to commute....just in time for winter as well.

lol ollie, agree with everything you said. I have everything behind the seats, stuff rarely goes under the boot net.

My f**king exhaust mount is shagged so the exhaust keeps bumping the heat shield and rattles...never had it before the stuff was taken out! But it's tolerable because, ignoring that, it sounds awesome.

LOL thats is soooooo true!!

i could never live without my heater tho, want to get rid of the dash tho... hmmmmm

I have a noisy rear box, noisy rear suspension and some sort of squeek coming from the fuel tank when its anything over half full!

But it does sound the business when im giving it the beans.:approve:

So many different definitions of 'stripped', you've got Jay at one end of the scale cutting metal out of a car as if its going out of fashion which is obviously a very permanent change.

On the other end of the scale there is something like this (Tom's car) which is what we install as a non permanent weight reduction package.

33f3qew.jpg

Non permanent, looses some weight, allows a good mounting point for harnesses, boot net for belongings & generally looks really tidy. Exhaust note is also a little louder which can make the car feel more engaging.

The key thing is that the above is not permanent, everything can be put back to standard in a couple of hours (as long as you haven't sold the parts ;))

The only thing that can grate with this setup is the noise if you have a loud system.

Since owning my clio I can count on one hand the times I have had someone in the back, removing the seats and exchanging the ridicously heavy 182 seats can save you upward 50kg!
