Stupid Sky Internet

For the last 2 days my internet keeps cutting off every 10 mins.
I've checked all cables. Changed the RJ-11 as it was bent.
Still the same problem.

This is with the sky wireless router so its not a computer problem.

Rob, are you sure every phone in the house has a filter?

Just checking as this is a huge problem when people dont do this.

Next step is to plug a RJ 45 cable into the router and do a constant ping to say bbc.

Start>Run>CMD. Type ping -t bbc.co.uk

Let it run, see if it timesout. Repeat and then if it timesout during a rj45 then i would phone sky and ask whats up.

Every thing is run of the same phone line socket and that has a filter.

Internet just went out. But I also couldn't even get the router config panel up at 192.168.0.1
So I'm guessing its a router problem ??

No point really trying to do a ping test if i can't view the routers control panel

I'm busy the same hours that Sky-Customer services work. So finding it hard phoning them.

Yer I have to reset it every time my internet goes off.

Rob could be mate, check your Gateway address and type that into the top bar such as http://192.168.0.1
admin and sky

If you cant get to it then you have a slight problem. Is this by trying the wired connection you have a problem getting to it?

Which Wireless Router is it? The netgear white one? DG834 IIRC?

Anyway.. SKY bundle their own rubbish firmware onto the router which is stripped down and has way less features. You can search google to find the tool which allows you to flash a proper Netgear firmware to the unit. Its pretty straight forward.

I did this with mine, as my wireless kept dropping out every 10 mins, and its way better now.

The best way to determine if its a line or wireless issue is to plug in an ethernet cable into back of the router and see if you get any drop outs.
