Sump nut washer reuse

Can you reuse the sump nut washer? I want to change my oil and nobody has a new washer in stock. Also never changed oil on the Williams myself. Is there anything that is tricky about it over any other car?

i guess you can re use it............but its copper and it squashes when you first use it so you wont get as good a seal this time and it might leak slightly

every time ive needed one Renault have em in stock, only cost about 7p

u can probably re-use it once or twice id use a new one after that

tricky bit is geting oil filter off as its quite tight

and u need a 3/8ths square drive to get the sump plug out if i remember rightly

I think i have the square drive from when i had a diesel clio before. Im hoping its the same size nut.

im pretty sure theyll be some one that makes universal ones, try halfords

Halfords do a cheap tool that has all the basic sizes for it, one of which fits perfectly.

I wouldnt advise using a sump washer twice myself, i did it years ago and ended up pissing my new oil back out cos it wont seal. th idea of the washer is that once its done up tight it seals the gap up, once its taken off it isnt going to do that again...

up to you but you may end up wasting your new oil, or having to ctch it and put it back through again, or you could be lucky!

If you HAVE to re-use the washer, heat it until cherry red over the kitchen hob (the other half will love that!), then let it cool fully before you use. It softens the metal so it will compress better.

i dont think it comes with it normally (not at my local dealer anyway) they just supply it as a goodwill gesture !

Ive never changed one in my bloody life! Never had a sump plug leak either. So yeah use it again i say. I just clean it up a bit thats all.

You lot dont half worry about such small things! hehe
