Sunk in the flood

  Clio 172
Ok so I got stuck in flood water and filled my engine with water but managed to take inlet off remove sparks and release the water, engine now starts and runs pretty good but with a sound that's similar to a valve bouncing but I'm no specialist, if anyone could help me out with any ideas of anything It could also be before the rebuild or engine swap goes ahead I'd be really greatfull. Thanks

Might just need a new head (by new I mean second hand), not a whole engine. Best bet is to take it to a garage, see if they can identify if its coming from the valves or small/big ends. IF its form the valves, get a replacement head. If is from the small ends, replace the damaged piston, if its big ends, get a new engine.

Should have dried it out, dropped the oil/water, and refilled with fresh before starting really :(. Either way its not going to be brilliant, but that's what I would have done. it sounds like you have fubard it unfortunately

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
rather than guessing, get someone with a bore scope/fibre optic camera, and compression and leakdown equipment to inspect the engine. (All facilities I have FYI)

Been there, done that, got the bollocking at work to prove it.

Mine needed a new engine, luckily it was a company vehicle so cost me nothing.

Really?

I've known companies sack people for that. The company in question isn't too far from you Mike.

Yep, loads of people have done it where I used to work though, it was pretty common to happen tbh.

One guy did it in a brand new Vectra the same month he started!

Vehicles get damaged when they are driven around all the time, everyday, especially in the spots we have to get to. The winter I did that about 7 other people had incidents of some sort, which is a lot considering the team has a maximum capacity of 32.

Which company, pm me if you like :)

The firm I used to work for in Low Moor had three people do something similar within a week. Two lads hydro locked their vans and another lad blew his van up by not putting any oil in it. They sacked two of them for it.

If they sacked everyone that did it in my company they would be a fair few people down now.. Every time we get bad floods we have several roll in with flood damaged engines..

After my above post, went into work tonight and what was on the side, van recovered in because it went through a flooded road... Water in the engine. Ha..

had my car recovered earlier, 2 miles after tiny amount of water across road, went through very carefully and slowly, engine sounded awful and then stalled, game over, insurance have recovered, anyone have an idea on timescale on repair/ will it be written off?

Thats exactly whats happened to me. i called up the insurance and all that im now waiting on assessor, they basically said it was a write off over the phone without anyone looking at it. i hopefully find out whats happeneing tomorrow
