TDC Sensor

Struggling to start first time recently and totally failed without being able to restart last week so by the sound of it the TDC sensor has gone.

Lots of options available, are they all the same as long as they come with the new loom bit?

Like this one?

I had the same issue and recently had a new one fitted. Before that I removed the original one, used wet and dry sandpaper on the sensor part and refitted it (I just removed the 2 10mm nuts to get at it). It worked ok after that.

For the amount of work to get there and price of above linked part I think I'd rather put a new one in, but glad it sounds like this is the issue and it sorted it for you!

Mine would also only start on second key turn. Genuine new loom section + tdc sensor sorted it, now starts first time every time. No idea on cost/place to buy from as it came with the car! Hopefully it sorts your issues

TDC Sensor: 8200647554
Loom: 8200673202

Shade under £100 for both from RPD (not including delivery)

I was told that the fuel pump doesn't pressurise on the first key turn. If I turn the ignition on, without firing, then off and then go to start it fires perfectly every time.

I read that too, I bought a second hand pump in case the new TDC didn't sort it. I have also read the horror stories of refitting the pump housing ring so glad the sensor fixed it for me 😅

Returning with my tail between my legs, started on the button first time for a couple weeks then returned to starting on second turn.

Replacing the fuel sender is next on my list to try, failing that checking the TDC loom further back for any damage (Mine had been cut up a bit on a previous TDC replacement)

Think mine has started with this issue last week. Starts up every time when cold - no issues. Once warm, it doesn't even crank over - complete nothingness from the starter or anything. I get the dash lights and fans kicking in, but no attempt to fire up. No codes, no EML, nothing untoward.

Leave it a few hours (three seems to be the minimum) and try to start it once again. Fires up straight away - so engine heat is clearly a factor here.

Might try cleaning the original item first - see if that helps. If not, it looks like a new replacement and the loom part to go with it.

I don’t think cleaning them makes any difference, once they go bad they stay bad iirc. If you are on your original one then you have done really well. On both my cars I have had to replace them, my current one I’m sure it’s had more than one as it’s had the new wiring loom and connector added to it.

If it doesn't even crank over, that points to a starter issue.

It would still crank with a faulty TDC sensor.
