Ten past ten... and thub rests... stuped

My friends just come off an advanced drivin couse: Been told not to use thumb rests, as may cause injury in accidents.... But our cars have-em!

Remember the ol ten past ten..? Me sis was taught that by her instructor the other day... But our thumb rests are at quarter past nine!

I thought advanced driving was about avoiding accidents, not where to stick your thumbs (proverbial?)

What theyre saying is that you shouldnt wrap your thumbs round the wheel to grip it for dear life (like those women who are virtually sat on top of the wheel) or rest them on the thumbrests as, if you do and the wheel spins in your hand in an accident or if you hit something massive on the road, you break your thumbs as the wheel-spokes hit them.

Ouch.

Of course, your thumbs will be the last thing on your mind if youve just had an accident! lol

And dont forget - just cos the rests are there, doesnt mean you have to use them
