Evening all, just after a bit of advice really on the drive home tonight stopped at the garage as the engine management light was on came up as post cat lambda so cleared the code to see if it came back up, left the garage, car was up to temprature oil level and coolent is all fine cambelt and dephaser have been done in the last 1k miles came to pull off the main road to my road and gave it a quick squirt, up to about 6k in to second and just rolled down the rest of the road.

On puling up on the drive the car cut out and was being a b**ch to start after atleast a minute of spinning it over it started struggled to idle or rev then would rev ever so slightly but with the rev it was knocking which sounded to me like little ends. Now it wont start at all its as if revving it to 6k has bust the bottom end and lost all compression !

Have done a quick search and all i can come up with is vvt unit next to oil filler but had no answer from the guy who had the problem on the thread.

Any help would be great guys.

I started a thread a couple of months ago regarding an issue with my car. It would struggle to start, and would idle very roughly and ran hugely rich - preventing the car from being driveable in any way and would only rev at all under full throttle.

Having not registered any fault codes, I changed numerous components before discovering that it was the MAP sensor at fault. If the car will start and idle (at all) then disconnect the MAP sensor and see if this makes any difference.

By the way, if there's a consistent and heavy misfire then the knocking noise may well be the engine jumping around on it's mounts...

Without the right tools the job of a cambelt aint possible on a clio lads! Know what I'm doing so less of the typical forum sarcasm ok think the lambda is at fault overfueled the engine washes the bores got in to the oil and damaged the bottom end will know more tonight when I get to the garage and have a proper look around.

that sounds pretty horrific if it is all from the lambda! I would have thought it the sensor went you wound have more time than you state before the amount of petrol in the oil would be any sort of a problem, and even then I wouldnt have thought it would cause bottom end damage. Over fueling would make the car difficult to start from cold, but it should run ok when hot (would stink of petrol). Best thing to do it swap the lambda sensors over and see if ithe problem goes away (the one after the cat is less important than the one before the cat).

Had the engine out this weekend and its bolloxed so stripped it down and am having bits sent off the new engine here there and everywhere next week and will be building a good strong engine, lambda has been gone a while i think, but with christmas and changing cambelt and all it has just skipped my mind. Will learn from my mistakes if theres a warning light on anytime in the future it gets sorted that day on my 4th clio engine now!

Must bloody love these cars!
