Time for some new shoes

  Megane RS250
Areeeeet guys,

Its about time i bought the girl some new shoes. Now at the minute shes running;

FRONT; NANKANG ULTRA SPORT 205/45 R16 87V XL - (I know they're crap but they came with the care so hold the snidy comments)
REAR; MICHELIN PILOT EXALTO 205/45 R16 83V - (don't know why there's 87V's on the front and 83V's on the rear?)

*Also i noticed when i did some forum searching that you can have 195/45's & 195/40's. Should i bother looking into these sizes? (i have the standard 182 anthracite alloys)

Now i dont know whether to get all 4 of the same tyre or like above have the fronts on budgets and rear good ones. I have been looking at these;

FIRESTONES; http://lovetyres.com/tyre/Firestone-SZ90/205-45-16

DUNLOPS
; http://lovetyres.com/tyre/Dunlop-Sport-Maxx/205-45-16

HANKOOK
; http://www.blackcircles.com/catalog...k&customerrating=0&displayall=6&tyre=14229094

Leaning more towards the HANKOOK VENTUS due to;
Fuel Economy & Wet Grip/Breaking Performance
Price

*Plus they have the extra weight capacity and speed rating.

Cheeeeeeeeeeers

I've got those Firestones on the Cup, pretty good all round.

Had no idea 182's were 205 width!

With the ones you've listed there'll be bugger all difference in fuel economy. lol

Less rolling resistance = less fuel .. which is great right up until the first time you take a corner as less rolling resistance = less grip.

UniSports are grade F - Hankooks are C

the Hankooks are running the same grip as Conti Premiums, Goodyear Eagles and Bridgestone Turanzas

A > G = 7.5% difference in economy under those conditions.

So, C > F is maybe half of that ? 3% ? 3% of 35mpg = 1.05mpg different.

You'll never notice.

Just get the best grippiest tyres you can afford. If you're worried about using 3% more fuel, take 5mph off your speed everywhere or take the back seats out. It'll probably make more of a difference.

:cool:

Theres alwaaaaaays one haha, nah thanks for the advice bud. To be fair i was going to choose the Firestones first

Hankook V12 .. all day long.

Check 205 vs 195 on price as well. You'll not notice the difference on the road.

Camskill and Blackcircles are about the only places worth checking these days.

Lal B3N works for Camskill :approve:

I've ordered some Toyo T1R's today, 195/50R15 one of our Clios. £76 pound delivered for 2 and a garage should be able to change them for roughly £12.50 per corner. I did want Toyo Proxes 4 but apparently they are having problems getting them in the country, they can't keep up with demand! Speaking to the guy at Tyrewizard, the T1R's are way more grippy, in the dry and better wet performance but won't last as long as the TP4's.

TR1s are overrated i think. Tyre walls to soft and pretty poor in the wet, but each to their own. Marmite tyres i think

I posted this in an old thread but there hasnt been a resonse yet so ill quote it in here. Im still unsure what to get

Just read through this thread, still havent decided but I'm leaning towards the RS2's, my front tyres are nearly on the markers and I need to get an order in with cam skill.

Both are decently priced unless anyone can reccomend another similar tyre thats better?

205's

195 are really cheap. Anyone running 195 on 182 tyres currently and can give an opinion? have searched it all anyway but interested in current views.

£108 just for fronts to get through the winter sounds good to me, but ill pay extra if 205 will see me extra grip?

To be fair, i think the V12s are better value for money, XL class, bigger load and speed capability.

I think alot of people order them for the tread pattern but I can always swap for the TR4 on the back if they are performing to well. It's the 1st time I've run on them and they are going on a track car, so it'll be a decent test for them :) If they're crap then lesson learnt
