Wont the antenna mounted in rear right window work?

If you get an external you cant use car washes  hehe

Not that you can in a vee anyway...

no extenal as in the one with the long wire that you can mount anywhere in the car, not external as in outside the car

Have a look in my thread, I thought they weren't needed with the 510 as that is the one I'm going to order?? Thought it was just the older versions of TomTom it was needed on?? I read conflicting reviews on it on Amazon though saying that :S

My experience with Renaults is that the newer cars with heat reflective screens will need an external antenna on the dotted patch around the rear view mirror.

However, my 172 Cup has no such coating on the screen (probably saved 5 or 10 grams :)) so I have no such problems.

But as mentioned in my thread, everyone seems to say that it is only required on the older TT versions and that the new versions ie the 510 dont need it?

Hmm, the newer TomToms do have a far better GPS chipset that provides a better signal, so perhaps it can get enough fixes to cope even when underneath a reflective screen?

Karen - they will work but the signal won't be as strong and it will take longer to get a GPS fix. Also more likely the signal will drop whilst in use. So technically it isn't needed - but it'll help.

p.s. I thought all versions of the Clio had the heat reflective windscreen - including the Cup?

I have one on my 700 - helped alot, but still takes a while to get its first fix... Cost about £25 from Ebay... Just run the cable to the back window

Just been out to have a look, and lo and beyond it has...

Weird, the satnav doesn't work at all in our 2004 Grand Scenic, but is fine in the 2003 172 Cup, hence why I thought it hadn't got it.

Perhaps it has a thinner light weight windscreen or something?
