TOMTOM HELP

Got a new satnav today, a referbished tomtom go 520, got it from www.teir1online.com , have ran all the updates, turned it on for the first time and it says it can't connect to any GPS satellites, I've left it for about 30mins with no luck in my room, tried it for 15mins in my car, and 15mins in the open. I've read that the first time it finds them can take up to 5 mins, and that it being cloudy can effect the signal, and it's completly over cast at the moment, so maybe its a combination of the two?

does anyone have any expert know how?

Have I got a duff unit or is it the weather? lol

Sounds like a duff unit...

BUT to rule that out follow the info on the tomtom site.

1) FULL reset of the unit

2) Format unit and replace all the files

3) Allow to sit for 30 mins in clear open direct sky

4) return for replacement!

Press rest as said and leave outside for ages. mine was ouside for 15 mins today as mine did not get a signal.

If there was 1 faulty one in 1000 units, you could guarentee I'd get it!

LOL yeah judging by the amount of questions about faulty ones there are when you search on google that would be a much more accurate figure!

left it for an hour outside today, and it found something, not quite sure what, seemed to get some sort of a co-ordinate for north, but nothing else.

have contacted where I got it from, and they have given me a free post address to post it to and they said they will send a replacement out ASAP, so should turn out OK!

have you reset it? tomtoms suck. I wouldn't buy one, was given one as a present (can't complain too much) and its pants. was top of the range at the time. stupid clio windscreen messes with them. Need to put it at the clear spot at the bottom in the middle for it to get a signal (reflective windscreen affect signal apparently).

yeah i reset it, wiped everything off, put everything back on, still the same, must be something dodgy going on with the internal gps receiver, wich tbf is the most important bit,lol.


Yeah I've read about that! such a pain getting it stuck on there aswel 'cos of the angle of the dash against the windscreen!
