Top button doesnt work

Old school 3g. Second time ive had this issue! Basically the top button doesnt go anything, cant turn phone off or lock it. Is there any chance its software related or is it hardware issue and a case of a genius bar appointment?

In the mean time, anyway of locking my phone. Its phoning everyone in my pocket

Set auto lock to 1 minute I guess in settings
