Track Car

  BMW 120i Sport

So there i was, having a bored moment at work today mulling over throwing some cash at the 182 to take it to 200 bhp or... keep the 182 as an everyday car, since im a warranty lover and spend the £3000-£5000 i was thinking of spending on the 182 on a track day / weekend car. If it broke down, or had problems, it wouldnt matter too much since its a secondry car.

But what?

I thought about an old Escort RS Turbo, stripped right down or best of all, a 3rd gen Mazda RX7 twin turbo; not reliable in the slightest but something to get my teeth into.

Any suggestions?

I reckon a ex-cup mk1 16v racer for the money is alot of fun.

Get a decent one for about £2500-£3500.

What about a stripped out Williams Clio?
Should be under £3k.
Id keep it light though Rx7 will be a heavy starting point.

Fieasta turbo stripped out full roll cage spend a 2000 on a good tune up as parts are cheap! get a nice one for bout 2,500 so thats 4,500 or more and they handle great with a good suspension kit...! and they will rip much better than the 1.4 GTT as its a 1.6 turbo i will cope well my mate had one and they are great better handling than a escort as i know!

You can get more power out the renault 1.4 than the ford 1.6 though!

Although you can fit bigger 1.9/2.0 turbod engines in the FRSTs.....

well i would say that a feez would hold more power than a 1.4 turbo as i know that these enins are good for it! i have seen big power from GTTs but still its the same for the fiestas tho recon they would handle better than a R5 too, Just IMO

Ive just bought a 205GTi with my brother for just this purpose - is an F-plate 1.6 in good standard condition with a vast wad of history for the princely sum of £750 with a spare set of 1.9GTi alloys. Were already craking on with it - it now has no interior (or even headlining) and weve painted the interior ready for when we can afford the cage/seats/harnesses.

Its a lovely little car - and is driving well now (as bought, the gearchange and clutch were awful - all sorted with a little adjustment!). Looking forward to its first outing!

Ill post a couple of pics when I get home...

1.9gti or Williams would be a good starting point. Both stripped out etc. Great handling and performance from both.

Christ, lots to chose.

205 GTi sounds like a good suggestion, but would prefer a williams. If it was turbod out of the box (scort RST for example) then it gives more potential to tune for less money id have thought?

Something rear wheel drive. 200sx maybe? As you know Ive got somewhere to store it as well!

Id saw my legs off first before buying one of those mingers ;), hairdressers car, dont like em . However I was thinking an old Jap mobile (hence the rx7) - maybe a stripped Civic VTi (the 170 bhp job, keeps the non turbo idea)? Many thanks for the storage offer, ill give you a shot for sure; you can get involved if you like too.
