Transfering V5 to my name

The v5 for my clio is currently under my mums name, And needs to be in mine for the new insurance policy.

I realise theres a fee in place, This can be done at the post office or via phone i understand?

Also seeing as the currenty policy stands with the v5 in my mums name, Would transferring the v5 to my name before the policy ends mean that i am not insured?

Im just checking before i do anything.

Couldnt you just fill it out asif she's sold it to you? No fee and you'll be able to drive it straight away, as long as you have you own insurance on it.

Just wait until the day of when the new policy starts.

Will it not matter what i do and changing the name on the V5 count as another owner?

Im thinking as long as i leave it in my mums name until the new policy then change it there will be no complications?

I suppose i either pay £25 for the name change? or i fill out the form on the sheet and send it off ?

  not a bloody clio!!!
Just fill it out as if your were buying it from your mum mate. It will count as another owner tho but if you were going to sell it you could class it as family owned ;)

No charge either and as soon as you have sent it off your all sorted with your insurance. Also its free

Is it possible to just change the name and leave the same address then? Not arsed about fees myself...

When I agreed to pay my dad for my old 1.2 I just left the V5 in his name and when I asked my insurance company they weren't bothered.
However if you want to have it in your name you will have to fill it out as if she has sold it you.

Making the car in my own name brought the insurance down by £100, I might phone up tomorrow and see if the insurance company cares though.

Im interested the same as Jesus if paying the £25 means i can change the name and it wont count as a new owner?

Down by 100 quid, d!ck turpin wore a mask, what compnay is that with? It shouldn't make a difference unless there are 2 people on your policy

Bell insurance, Went from £1151 with mods on my own policy mum named driver, To £950 with my nan also as a named driver and car in my name. Changing the name back to mum made it go up a £100.

Then to £750 one payment when they said they would accept my 2 years ncb from direct line.

Chuffed isnt the word.

Your nan being on it will have made the £100 difference not you changing the keeper. Have you tried changing the keeper back with your nan on it and see if it affects it?

You can't insure a car that you don't own in your own name, unless it's already insured by the person whose name it's in.

In a nutshell:

your mum owns it, you have the policy = it's invalid
your mum owns it, she has a policy of her own and you have one too = valid
your mum owns it, she has a policy with you named = valid
you own it and it's your policy = valid

Has a policy of her own on a different car ? or the clio? You cant have two policys on the same car can you.

Its going in my name anyway ive decided, Just going to send the V5 off the day before the policy ends.

Yep my nan brought it down, But switching it back to my mum owning it made it go up a £100, Not sure why but im pretty sure thats right.

 When I was insured with more than they said that even though the car was in my dads name it was fine for me to have a policy in my name, and I was with them for 2 years, good job i never had a accident if it would have been invalid.

The car has to have a policy by the person that owns it. If it has one by someone else, it's invalid. It can have two policies, known as 'liability insurance' and 'interest insurance' iirc.

As far as I know (and I've read into it quite a bit) that's invalid, unless your dad had a policy of his own on that car as well.

Yep, the car has to have an insurance policy on it at the time otherwise this is invalid also.

F*cking hell this is getting confusing!

Just fill out the forms as if your selling it. When you do, it will show the last owners name, and when that is the same as yours, you can easily explain that the previous owner was your mum!
