Clio RS200
Hi all! New member here.
I've had my lovely 2010 Clio RS 200 Gordini for about 18 months and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The plan was only ever to experience it for about a year (I've never had a hot hatch before and always wanted one) and then move it on. I paid good money for a decent one from a dealer (80k miles, FSH, great condition) and it's been brilliant to drive. Unfortunately over the past few months it's developed what I can only describe as a stutter/missing, particularly at lower revs (2/3k) when under a bit of strain (such as pulling up a hill), when cold, and strangely when going bumpy roads?! Pushing in the clutch and giving it some revs sorts it out but it's not right.
My mechanic is decent and races a 182 so should should know his stuff. First thing was a good service (he reckons the spark plugs were gone, and one was loose) and that's improved things a lot but not solved. He's done a compression test which shows things are a bit low but not too bad. He's also got a vacuum reading which is on the low side (I don't really know what this means) but again suggests it's not too bad. I gave him the okay to do timing/dephaser and now it's driving beautifully, except it still has this stutter occassionally.
At this point we're both foxed and in a bit of a fix. We're not sure what's causing it and whether it's economical to fix it. If I was keeping it I probably wouldn't bother as I know how to drive it to avoid the stutter but I don't want to land a buyer with what might be a big problem or sell the car for way less than it's worth if there's an easy fix.
Any ideas would be increadibly gratefully received!
