  LY 200
Alright peeps

Im not the brightest spark when it comes to computers so thought id ask on here.

Smething has popped up on our comp tonight sayin "you may be a victim of software counterfeiting, you dont have a genuine copy of XP " it give 2 options, 1. get genuine copy now and the other resolve later.

Clicked the resolve later one and it just keeps on coming up saying this is not a genuine copy of windows :S is this a new virus or summin and if so is there away of getting it off the comp......Iv clicked on the get genuine copy and it directs you to microsoft.com where you can purchase something called a key kit for 92 quid.

We bought the PC a few year ago from PC world and havnt tampered with the software apart form puttin a different security program on, im confused and hope it nout bad :dapprove:

Any help much apprieciated

Jamie

Either return the "I bought it thinking it was genuine" counterfit CD with proof of purchase or pay up to $150 for XP Pro.

Like Day said, as long as you have a GENUINE nicrosoft XP home/pro key, you should be ok If not, you be screwed!! (well slightly put out anyway!!

Whip it back to PC world saying they have given you a bad copy of windows. I know its probably out of warranty but if its not a real copy of windows then they have broken the law and they should sort it.

Otherwise just use one of the programs that get around it. Id still whip it back to the shop though you might get something out of it.

just turn the auto updates OFF, and this message wont come up again, tho you wont be able to update windows

i got this aswell. totally raging as its a real copy and theyve disabled all the security on the computer.
its just microsoft trying to make money from everyone imo

did you guys lend someone copy your original, or lend it someone, if its on 2 or more computers and they try and update, tahts when you get the problem

nope ... all ive done is upgrade the computer ... added another harddrive n changed the processor. should still work on the same software as the key is the same is it not ?

This is of no help, but personally I would never have a hooky OS. The OS is the foundation of your PC and IMO it needs to be genuine and in tip top condition.

PS. I'm not saying the copy in question is hooky.

This is very easy to fix and you dont have to get those muppet fuckwits at Pissy World involved.

Go to RUN from the start menu and type %WINDIR%/SYSTEM32 then hit return

there will be a file in there called WGALOGON.DLL - rename this to WGALOGON.OLD.DLL

there will also be another file called WGATRAY.EXE - rename this to WGATRAY.OLD.EXE

now reboot

Don't suppose anyone knows how to get rid of the microsoft Security centre on the bar next to the clock saying 'your automatic updates are turned off' without actually turning it back on??

wtf is an os

Step away from the PC (Personal Computer) or for your sake the white/black box making a humming that has it's own TV (television).
