V6 255 maintenance

Does anyone know if there is a specialist dealership that looks after maintenance on the V6? or are all of them as capable of each other?

Im just afraid that some dealers dont see them often and wouldnt have a clue about the peculiarities and specialist knowledge to look after them properly...

The V6 isnt too unusaly I didnt. (Ok looks aside) The engine is almost the same as the one in the laguna etc.

Any decient dealership should be fine. There enough information at any dealerships fingertips to ensure if you use a decient dealer you will be ok.

If you become a member you can have a look in the Renult dealership forum and see what other peoples recomendations are.

The Renault employees who work on your car for service work are unlikly to be the technitians anyway

There are Premier dealers who look after V6s

I havent come across one which isnt though.

City Renault is one. ( Commercial Road )

any main dealer (not sattalite dealers) can maintain the v6. renault used to make a thing of that you had to have specific trained staff so being a premier dealer to work on models like the v6,spider,avantime etc but now it just seems any main dealer can do it.

Thanks for your replies. It relieves me somewhat that I can get the V6 looked at by most dealers, Ill check for "Premier" status when booking.

Im intending on using the V6 for trackdays and a couple of trips to the Ring so it *may* need a bit of extra TLC (but I hope not too often!).

Thanks again guys.

THanks for the heads up, but already ordered, just waiting on delivery!.

Was going to buy a Z or S2000, but happened to chance upon Clio V6 whilst driving home and thought Id give it a try. Can tell you, was going to go for the S2000, but when I drove the Clio it blew me away!. Great traction when exiting from the roundabouts :) and the feel was awesome. So communicative that it was intuitive applying opposite lock when the tail was coming around!

Cant wait!

The Z?...well...

I drove it on the same day and I enjoyed the Clio a LOT more!. Coming from a 968 Sport, the Z felt similar but not better than the 968 in any way other than top end speed. Handling and steering feel is better on the 968, so I thought to myself, "why buy a Z when I didnt feel as though it was actually better than what I already had!". When I was able to give the Z some stick, it actually had a noticeable bit of initial understeer before settling into a fairly composed drift, but still, the 968 was a better handler (less understeer!).

One thing I liked about the Clio was that the power delivery felt immediate, whereas the Z had to be wound a bit before picking up, just a bit more inertia in the Z which made it feel a bit on the heavy side.

The Z is a good road car, but for my purposes (a bit of track work) the S2000 or Clio feels better suited. Id be afraid the Z would be a bit heavy on tyres and brakes with all that weight to manage, but Im not too sure about the facts on that - just a guess!

Depends on what you want really, of the 3, the Z is prob the most comfortable, the S2000 feels light and agile (pointy handling - tail felt light, which is better than understeer in my book!), but the Clio had the most feel, best noise and when the grip goes, you can sense it so well.

The Z or S2000 may win pub arguments about 0-60 blah blah blah, but they just didnt feel special in terms of involvement compared to the Clio.

Just my opinions...hope that helps!

Thanks for the maybeV6, Im trying to work out if I should swap my 172 for a lovely V6 or Z in the future, but at the moment Im wearing my sensible hat and thinking maybe just swap for a 182 and pay off a big chunk of my mortgage.

Biggest problem for me is that I live in london and have a tiny drive - there is no way a Z would fit so it would have to live at the roadside

Oh, and I hope you enjoy your car (what colour?), and welcome to the mad house!

Maybev6 just to put your mind at rest a bit about the servicing thing + trackdays.

I did 5 trackdays last year and a couple of Don Palmer training days. The car was serviced at normal intervals by standard dealer and I never once had any problems or disappointments on track with it. I have done another 2 this year and the same situation.

In my (somewhat limited/under committed experience!) the car does not use oil at trackdays, seems to be over braked (i.e. I have not had to do the pads yet despite 27,000 miles). Rear tyres end up being the only real consumable as such (you may want to try Pirelli PZero Rossos at some point).

Like you I am planning a trip to the Ring also thinking about doing Spa an the way/way back.

Surely a v6 is no more difficult to maintain than your average laguna v6

Id rather check the oil on a Laguna for starters LOL
you definitely got a point there - judging by the pics of Slugger at 6.00am doing it to a Vee!!! :p

Thanks for your comments. V6Max - interesting to read your observations about the brakes. That was one thing I noticed on the V6 was that the discs were quite sizeable. Are the calipers AP Racing items?! couldnt tell and difficult to find much info about these cars.

Also an aspect which concerned me about the S2000 - the single piston calipers...but heck they prob reduce unsprung weight and work well with the car (only 1200ish kgs compared to 1400 for the Clio V6!).

I spoke to another guy running a V6 on track and the only issue hes had is a bit of wear on the edges of the front tyres (a touch of understeer at high speed and throwing the car in on turn in). But generally, like you, it has been trouble free (touch wood).

hoping to receive my Black Gold mid-late June.

For you guys with black - how does the interior look with the black inserts? (presumably its black paint)...cant find any pics anywhere!

black is just superb - inside-outside-upside-downside - any which way !!!!

good choice maybe

Lee - what colour you ordered?

you will not be disappointed methinks !!! :D

Get in touch when you are heading to the ring. I spend a fair bit of time there and live just down the road a bit. Happy to show you around.

25 laps last weekend.

Maybev6, the front callipers are AP 4 pot. Ferodo do the DS2500 pads in a suitable size and are cheaper/better than Renault standard fit. You can get braided hoses from Goodridge - they are not listed but they can do them.

I am trying to find out from AP what the specifications for the discs are since I have noticed some wear and would like to move to grooved or cross-drilled. On track I have not really experienced significant brake fade but I do tend to relatively gentle on the brakes and do the out lap, session, in lap thing.

Just to avoid any confusion mine is a Mark 1. As the other person who you spoke to said, the main problem on track is understeer, a reluctance for the front to turn in and body control issues (on a track it rolls like a ferry in bad weather).

Personally, I have found that on a dry track you can forget about the reputation the car alledgely has for spinning - it will be the understeer thing that causes the most problems.

As you are talking about the Mark 2 I suspect that most of the issues will probably have been sorted out - for me the resolution has required a fair amount of money and tinkering around and I have not gone as far as some others.

...all this talk has me itching to get out there!..

it will be a looong wait.

I did try the mk 1 Clio V6 cup car in Gran Turismo 3 A-spec :) - bit more brake bias to the front and a bit more camber to reduce the understeer. Its sad I know, but gotta keep myself busy!...and thankfully only had to spend "play" money :)

The understeer is apparently an issue for the Mk 2, but Im happy to learn how to drive within its characteristics and forgive it everything for the fun and involvement you get in return!. Bring on June!!!.

Maybev6 Renault set the front camber up to make the car "safe" i.e. understeer first - probably the same reason they like those tall narrow tyres on the front.

I had to spend real money to sort mine out unfortunately!
