v6

anyone shed some light on the v6... looking at getting shot of the 182 and buying v6 due to the fact they look cool.... but are they faster and better handling.... ?

Faster as the speeds climbs yep noticably so.

Best do a serach theres even an owners forum for V6 owners best ask there.

Handling depends which one and what you mean by better there more of a handfull even more so the Mk1's if you try and push them there not 172/182 for safetly at the limit.

yes 3.0 litre v6 engined rear wheel drive pushing 255bhp (mk2) 0-60 5.2ish and not far off 150 plus top end

  Mk4 .:R32
They are rapid. Bit inconvinient though with no space for anything but you and a passenger. You after a mk1 or 2?

I'd die for a V6! There was one parked up near my place a few weeks back, there was me looking all smug walking back to my 172 and I clocked this new yellow one, no rear seats, just engine I imagine! Took the smile of my face!!

mk 2 defo...blue

just need to find one! would i'd be better throwing money at the 182 or paying a little more and getting a v6?

the v6 is not a car you can just use on a day to day basis to go to work, shopping and stuff! Nothing like your 182. The v6 is a beast which should be cherished(not saying you wouldn't), they will be a rare breed soon.

don't use the 182 evryday, which is why i wanted it faster, but am startiong to think i'd be better off selling it and getting a v6....

are the mk 2 as unreliable as the mk1s?

There is a CS member called Marie who uses her Mk2 V6 everday for work, shopping etc, even sits the dog in the front in a little red harness!!

I wouldn't let things like lack of space put you off!

I used to use mine everyday, go to London to work most days, do the shopping, went to France on a road trip for 7 days, took enough luggage for two of us, it's fine ..... just having and driving the car itself overcomes any possible small problem !!!

just do it, you won't regret it.

our Mk2 did over 40k in 2 years, and never missed a beat - no problems, only time it was in the garage was for services - most fun ever in a car .... the trophy is fun, but nowhere near as much as the Vee is !

right....well the 182 is gonna be for sale and i need to find a blue v6!

for those that have had one do they feel the same to drive as the 182 or are they totally different? love how the 182 feels!

Hi peeps,
Im the owner of the 182 zainey is askin about!
I love my 182 but want more acceleration. I love the way the v6 looks, i dont need to use the car everyday or need back seats. Just want a car thats quick handles well and looks good!!
I'm told the engine isn't to loud in the v6, is this the case?

I have had...

172 cup
mk1 v6
mk2 v6 which i now have and plan to keep for ever

my dad also has a FF 182..so Im pretty good for comparisons..

the vee's are in a different ballpark to the 2.0L's, you cant just easily go for a quick 5 mile rag and have as much outright fun..

the mk1 has seriously flawed handling in my opinion, I thought it was pretty good until I drove a 255...they have sorted the car out BIG TIME! the mk2 is also much quicker up through the gears, gearbox itsself is better, and its suprisingly quick point to point..just a confidence case more than anything,

I fitted my mk1 with a QS OMG exhaust..which was just crazy loud..and not really good to live with...the mk2 is standard, and the noise is sensational...motorway cruising you only just hear it, but on full chat, one of the sweetest noises ever..

also expect people waving, staring like mad, waiting at supermarkets for you to come back so they can quiz you about it etc..

just do it! prices are holding firm now especially on the mk2's :) All the people that say £20k for a clio is mad etc..they probably havent lived with a vee...once you get back into a 182 etc...you feel like your in a different make of car, you sit alot higher and everything rattles..lol

the vee is actually put together properly too, you will realise this when you test one :)

Two totally different cars, imo.

The 182 is a lot more chuckable than a Vee. The 182 will get you out of the brown-stuff if you've done something daft (unless you really screw up!) that would otherwise take a brilliant driver to recover in a Vee.

The Vee however, just has SO much road-presence. Loads of people take pictures on phones/point/give the thumbs up/etc - enough to make you realise that you're in something special. The sound as well (even in standard trim) is great - much, much better than the muted exhaust note of the 182s.

Obviously, petrol is a consideration (depending on your driving) - low 20s for the Vee typically whereas the 182 is low to mid 30s. Insurance too - the Vee is Group 20 and is worth bearing in mind. Iirc, you need Tracker for most insurers to even consider you on a Vee.

PM my better half (Jainy) - she'll shed some light on Vee ownership! :D

Yep Colin - cheers for off-loading that to us. :rasp:

Just short of 500 miles this weekend to the audio backdrop of BRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNN left my ears ringing for ages when we got back!

What's worse, it gets louder the warmer the engine and exhaust gets!

Still sounds great though.

  172 cup (again)
I own both a MK1 Vee & a 172 cup, both totally different ball games. I use my Vee for every day use (work and gym, e.t.c) with no problems at all, the bonnet storage will hold a few bags of whatever and you can always put things in the passenger footwell if need be. As other have said, off the mark there is not much in it at all but mid range the Vee is quite a lot quicker. I love both cars equally, its nice to get back in the cup on the wknds although you have to drive both cars differently because of the FWD/RWD factors. People mention the MK1 Vee as being a poor handling car but ive yet to have a 'moment' with it. Aslong as you respect the car for what it has/is then you will be fine. I have a prospeed backbox on my Vee which has increased the noise but its a pleasureable noise not a drone that compliments the V6 engine. For the money you can pick up a decent MK1 Vee for there is nothing else out there with the 'WOW' factor and i always have a smile on my face when i drive mine. Scoobys & Evos may handle better but Scoobys are like pubes (evreyone has them) and Evos are much more expensive to maintain. The servicing intervals are good on the Vee and parts are not expensive and easily available. Go for it

I'm sure you will have enough money to run it, but get one with low milege if you can or one that has already had the cambelt done cause ive heard the cambelt change is a grand.
