Viper or Hillpower Induction Kit

Im after some sort of induction kit for my 172.

I know its not going to make my car much faster but it hopefully will make it breathe that little bit easier at high revs.

As both kits are pretty much the same price which kit should i go for. I do like the sound that an induction kit can make that is why i am swaying towards the Hill power Kit..

Any advice or views would be appreciated. I know this has been talked about a lot but i hate making decisions. Cheers guys

had a look at the hill power kit today and am still happy i got my CDA. its a nice bit of kit tho and comes with everything inc a silicone elbow making it a lot easier to fit.

how much is the bmc cda and what does it sound like? i take it its quieter than an open induction kit but louder than standard.

yeah its not as loud as an open induction kit, its still roudy and meaningful!

i paid 210 delivered from demon tweeks, only place that had it in stock.

im pretty sure my hillpower kit has made a small difference and you get the noise.love the noise.

Im tempted by the viper at 200 (all in). ClioSport members should have had an email about it.

Which makes it cheaper than the Hill Power, and also cheaper than the CDA listed above.

dont really get that induction noise with fully closed filters though do you? im probably just sad but having that noise was one of the main reasons for buying one.i think the hillpower one is a good comprimise between having the noise but still getting an improvement from it.

i think the viper is ace mate and has made a noticeablke difference mid range plus wth the ehxaust now the combo works very well indeed..where is the viper ffor sale at 200 bloody hell...anyone know where i can buy the red end for the end of the feed pipe?

Cant comment on individual systems, but if you want power you must go for a closed unit.

Closed units do not suck in the hot air around the engine compartment so you get better breathing and a good cold air supply. The colder the air the more dense it is and the better the burn which then gives more power.

Open systems make a good noise but suck in all the hot air round the engine bay loosing you power.

This is why they use closed systems in rally cars.

Some cars can benefit from open sytems when tuned with other componants, but the clio has a very small enclosed engine bay which runs very close to an open unit

No doubt all those who have open units will disagree

my thoughts exactly mate he he....viper looks good as well he he...any chance anyone could tell me if i can get the red end for my feed pipe cheers..please help me my end is lookin shabby he he

Agreed...

My Viper has definately given me more power & torque in the mid-range and we even proved this on the rollers with a couple of differenct cars!

Hillpower website says that their IK with their stage 1 kit gave torque increase of 7-9ib/ft throught rev range and 12-16 BHP MAX at independent rr run, does anyone know who these owners were and has anyone any rr graphs of a std 172 with the IK fitted with either stage 1 kit or group-n ecu

As for their kit being classed open kit, surely the little slit in the side of the heatshield in conjunction with 2 or 3 cold feeds should be ok ? at least the slit is not engine side but facing away from engine ???

what yer think ?

One of them might have been mine. - at least for a IK/ZORST COMBO.....

Im waiting for a chance to get to PE to see what the figures are for the IK/IM/ECU/ZORST combo is......

Do you run these viper kits with a group N ECU, and what sort of gains have you seen on the dyno.

Sorry to bring up ECUs again
No, mine is standard apart from the Viper (for now), but made 147bhp @ wheels on the rollers.

However, the most significant gains were in the mid-range, where power and more specifically torque showed a very healthy improvement!

Getting a Scorpion system very soon, so will see how that changes things and probably be getting an R-Sport ECU too.

rich..what about the red end mate? where can i get one from ;/
Well... if you slam your p3nis in a door... ;)

That red trumpet is a Pipercross part, so your local Pipercross stockist (or wherever you got the Viper from) should have them or be able to get you one!

Might actually be a part of the kit now as Yozza got one with his I think!?
