Vital things to check.

Off to see a 197 today.

What are the most vital things to check to make sure it is running sweet?

If it's anything like the 1*2's then cambelt, cambelt, cambelt! Make sure it's been done by a reputable garage that knows what it's doing, and check service history etc... Knuckles would be able to give you a few pointers I'm sure.

Gearbox on a 197 for sure.

cambelt at 5 years or 72k

wear to bolsters

Make sure the gearbox doesn't crunch above 5k between 3rd and 4th

Check when the brakes were last serviced. The pins can be a b**ch

Cheers guys - going to have a read through your post on c197 now Knuckles.

I've asked him if he has proof of cambelt change and he said yes, at 52,000 and it's now on 58,000.

I'll double check etc.
