Warrenty Issue with Janspeed... help !!

  BMW M3
Hi guys,

Been trying to get my Janspeed exhaust replaced on my 182 as its boomy as hell and bust.... so want the same as a replacement.

Janspeed have said they want to test my exhaust and either fix or replace it.... thats fine.

My issue with this though is that the options they have given me, are to either send the exhaust to them.... thus taking my car off the road, or buy another one and then sell it second hand. lol

To me this seems complete b****cks !!!

I actually laughed when he made the "buy another one comment".

I also bought the exhaust through Dastek who are also fighting the case for me.

Janspeed also suggested that Dastek cover the cost of buying another one and selling it 2nd hand lol.

So far, there is no chance of me doing any of their suggestions and made it very clear on the phone that i wasnt happy.

What have people done in the past when getting an exhaust replaced and what would you recommend?

Thanks

P.S. Janspeed comes with life-time warrenty

Im not quite sure how you bought the exhaust or had it fitted but here are the options

You bought the exhaust seperatly and had it fitted by Dastek...

Basically with parts bought seperatly you have to foot the bill if they need returning, which is crap.

Dastek supplied and fitted the exhaust...

If they bought it and fitted it and now it failed its Dasteks problem to sort it out

If a Renault dealer fitted a part to your car and it failed you would get the renault dealer to sort it out, not Renault UK

If you buy parts form the same place that fits it they normally make a bit of money on the parts but this is one of the times when it comes in useful

Dastek did supply and fit the exhaust, yes.

I can understand that they are responsible for fixing the problem, but doubt they are prepared to buy another one and sell it 2nd hand. Or is this how it always works, and i should tell them to deal with it?

Its not the postage cost thats the problem; its the loss on buying another exhaust. To me it just seems silly.

Your contract of sale is with Dastek. They should be resolving the problem not you.

They should replace it ASAP and then sort out the rest with Janspeed at a later date.

I'd lean on Deastek a bit as it's their responsibility to deal with Janspeed as a supplier and honour the warrantee.

Good luck with it

Janspeed have purpose built workshops in Salisbury, Wiltshire.

Might be worth arranging with them to look at it there and make any needed adjustments/replacement etc.

can't you put your std exhaust on for a few days?
you cant really argue with Janspeed because what they have said about testing it and fixing/replacing it is all they can do, you being without a car for a few days is not their problem.
if i was you go and speak to who ever fitted it and tell them you can't be without a car and and see what solutions they come up with.

its normal practice really, what do you want them to do, they can hardly send you another exhaust out for free on the assumption that you will send the faulty one back, they would have people scamming them left right and centre !

id see if you can go to them direct myself, thats what Scorpion offered to do with me

its just like any product really, if its faulty it has to be returned to the place that makes it, how do you expect them to do anything without seeing it

i work @ a shop that deals with janspeed, and others such as scorpion, magnex, peco etc etc, and it will be in there terms within your warranty that if a fault should arise they are not responsible for its associated costs, be they return delivery costs or fitting your standard one back on, or a hire car or whatever

i KNOW its not what you want to hear, ive been in the same boat when my K-Tec exhaust failed, i had it repaired locally and they paid for the work by giving me credit

Thanks for the input guys,

After speaking with Janspeed, i can understand their views and agree there isnt really anything else they can offer.

I think i might just deal with Janspeed directly and return the exhaust to be fixed/replaced. I will prob just courier the exhaust down there and have my car off the road for 3 days.

Its too far to drive from edinburgh.

Oh, and i dont have my old exhaust anymore.

Thanks

It might be worth the drive down mate....might cost a bit in fuel but you're car wont be off the road and they wont be able to fob you off by jus patching it up or whatever...

  BMW M3
^^^ i was thinking that, but the cost in fuel and miles on the car would be more then the loss made by buying a new Janspeed and then selling it 2nd hand i think.

They say that it would only take 3 days from me sending i, to recieving it... so its not too bad.

Not bad idea, but i presume there would be some money decent money involved, and i dont know anywhere near me.
