anyone seen this before:
today someone said their excel spreadsheets wouldn't save and that they had funny file names.
i went out to have a look at the files had renamed themselves to a series of 8 alphanumeric characters with no file extension.
the weird parts were that, i couldn't do file > save as; i could only save as this new weird file name; even though it had no extension, a different computer knew to open it up in excel; and after i had saved and closed it, I couldn't rename it to the original file name, as it said it was in use - I had to go on the file& print server and force it closed.... then i could just rename it to the original names and everything was hunky dory.
usually i am quite good with office problems but this one has got me stumped (so i am going to guess the computer lost network connectivity for a moment and created this bizarre file for some reason?!)
but does anyone know what happened? :S
