What are Privilage Like With Mods?

As above, am putting an aftermarket exhaust on my car soon, but have just renewed with Privilage. Have heard that they are not too keen on mods though. And I'm under 25.

They wacked a load on my premium back in 2004 (i was 24 at the time) for an exhaust on a 1.4

Deb,

As long as you don't get an exhaust with twin DTM tailpipes then you'll get away with arguing the toss over the following points.

• It's not power increasing (how can they prove otherwise?)
• You're buying it because your one fell off, and Renault want to charge you £800 for a new one, whereas this will cost £300 with a warranty.
• You'll happily take your custom elsewhere if they try and charge you for something that doesn't change the car (other than sound).

With that they might still try and charge you something (which you will still say no to) and eventually you'll get what you want.

At the end of the day, whether you have a side exit straight down pipe or a halfords backbox, whether you pay £1 or £750 extra insurance for an exhaust, it's still marked on your policy as a "modified exhaust system"

Remember, that won't work with underwriters that have "no mod" policies for those under 25 because the insurer are simply passing on the message that they won't offer cover to under 25s with modifications.

Well that's how I got mine for £20 extra instead of £400 extra.

Will go with a more mod friendly place next year I think! Wasn't planning on doing anything to it at the time I renewed though!

Other than Nazi insurers, exhausts are pretty mainstream and you should be able to get away with them for free on most policies. Things like bigger turbos, rollcages/race spec interior etc are what they mean by "modified car insurers"

cliokhunt - with other mod's they do.. i've no idea what spec Deb's car is, cheeky!

Deb - Surely best way is to ring them, no harm is asking, then if its stupid amounts maybe worth just sticking with the renault though, even though they are stupidly over priced.

I have no other mods, just the exhaust when it goes on, so don't think it's going to improve the bhp.
