When can you red line a new car

I bought a new Clio Sport and have travelled 2000 miles. With these miles on the clock is it ok to push the car to the 7000 RPM or should I wait till the car has travelled longer. The dealer told me to wait until the car is bedded in? I am asking this because to change gears above 5500 RPM is rather hard you really need to push to go from 1 or 2nd gear.

Thanks

to give you an idea

i got my car when it was 7 miles old

travelled home (5 miles)

in the morning, gave it a good thrashing, and as things stand mine is (was) the quickest 1.2 16v in the club, engine will perform better IMO but will not last as long

Yes you should be able to start giving it some throttle.. just make sure the oil has fully warmed up (20min run somewhere first)

Why do you want to red line it ???

Peak power is at 6250rpm iirc on the 172s so going all the way to 7000rpm will not make it go any faster!

That dont thrash it stuff is balls. That was back in the days of p1ss poor design tolerances.

Give it some right from the forecourt. Did this when my mum got her AX in 96, and its never had any trouble, and Ive had it and now my sis has it.

Design tolerances are on paper, go to a ford plant and do end of line testing and see what happens to design tolerances

Good point. That may hold true for German and Jap cars but not british and french ones.

Fvck it anyway. Thrash it. Ive never had any trouble with cars that Ive had or known, that have been thrashed from new. Although I am cautious for maybe the first 250-500.

Thrash it

Red lined mine off the forcourt, with anyluck it will hold up, but i think its just more pot luck with french cars!!

LOOK HOW THE FRENCH DRIVE!?!?!?!?!!!

OMG how did you last that long without giving it a good thrashing? Do it now! The gear change will loosen over time!

LOL. I would say give it 1000 miles of no more than 4500 (do an oil change) then after that let it rip.

I usually go to 7k rpm in first and second and about 6,5k rpm in 3rd. That gives a nice quick getaway from most things on the road and drops it nicely around 5k rpm on each gear change.

holy sh*t! in the case mines gonna take that title!!!! ;)

I didnt thrash mine in the first 100 miles.... then between 100-150 miles i hit the rev limiter (by accident mind you!!) on the way to Ben Rs place.... and i asked ben about this wearing in time and he called it bollox and said he thrashed his 172 from day one and his one was the only one that never had any problems!!!! im now on 650 (less than a week later!) and ive take it up quite high in the rev range quite a few times (into the so called redlines) since then and taken it easy also! so not ragging her all the time but definetly opening her up from time to time to hopefully cause the car to end up like bambams lol!
anyways, mine is a 1.2 16v so a lil different engine but still less than 8 days old.... & i dont even have a redline!!!! all i know is the rev limiter is at 6k! quite low!!!!!!

hopefully mine wont f**k up :S but im getting worried now!! but i wouldve thought that engines nowadays can take it?! I mean, has anyone seen how much they rag these engines when they are laid bare in the workshop? Ive seen just an engine lump on its own held at like 7k for half an hour! (limiter was 7500), u wouldve thought its ready to take a lil bit of that after u pick it up....
