When your shift light will on

I am wondering when peoples shift light will on (other than when ignition is on)???

"Each" gear right before the limiter?

The light comes on 300rpm before the red line I think.

Although the cars Ive driven have had faulty shift lights which dont come on

Once you get used to leathering the f**k out of it, you learn to be able to see the light (when its dark at least), although I normally find Im already grabbing the stick when it happens.

Yeah I think it comes on about 250-300rpm before the limiter, but it varies accpording to oil temperature. When cold, its around 6500, and when warm its around 7000-7250 depending on what gear youre in. I personally always give mine at least 10 minutes regardless of coolant tenmperature, and then rag the sh*t out of it in every gear.

In time, you wont need the shift light as anything more than an indicator that you nailed the gearshift as late as possible without hitting the limiter...if you wait for the light, youll be bouncing all over the limiter before youve dipped the clutch. More importantly youll probably crash anyway, and thatll ruin your whole day.

Plus, I find its better to shift at around 6900rpm anyway, especially in higher gears, as hanging on much longer doesnt really aid forward motion. In 2nd and 3rd I give it the big potatoes though (7000+rpm)

I finally see the shift light on today!!! I was trying to do some 0-62km after the tunnel toll booth. It did not show on 1st gear, but on 2nd when it get to around 6,500rpm.

Be honest, it is cool to see it on, but actually no use cos you got to see the road and the light are a bit weak. You wont get to that rpm than often except you are on track day.

As an afterthought. Why not just get used to the cars noises. Lights will come on, by the time any human can react they are gone.

"Feel the force my young Padawan";)

The rev. limiter cuts in later as the oil is warmed up. Also, if you do hit the limiter you have lost power and time.

Play with the boy and enjoy. You can hear the right point if you practice, no need to look at anything other than the road.

I tend to drive by ear so I dont use the light. Does catch me out though when its cold as the limiter comes in early. I find on my commute home even after 15 mins of driving it still comes in early.
