Which clay for a novice??

  Porsche Boxster987S
would the megs quick clay be suitable or worth the money or am i better looking at the sonus clay???

Also , will claying the car remove tar spots or will i need tar remover aswell as clay???

Cheers

The megs kit is a brilliant starting point, not too abrasive whilst doing the job. Best to get separate tar remover.

Disagree, Megs is good but if you go outside of what you can get in Halfrauds, I reckon the best stuff out there is Bilt Hamber's auto clay. Massive bar (better value) and doesn't need a special lube, works with water. Easier to use for a beginner that way.
Look on the detailing world forum to see other people starting to discover it.
Comes in 2 grades, soft is very mild, for more frequent use.

i just bought the bilt hamber clay off ebay should be here tommorrow.
i tried the poorboys clay with soapy water and the clay broke down and went really sticky after about 5 mins. that was my first time using clay and it didnt work atall. im hoping bilt hamber will be better and wont break down due to just being able to use water! i got some tar remover too because my paintwork is really bad!

Sounds like a good list, throw in some AG Tar Remover and you should be good.

May need a more aggressive polish to correct spot defects that the SRP wont improve.

yea im going to get some tar remover tomorrow. has that just to be applied like a polish???

what am i basically doing then with the above^^^? :

1) wash and then dry (2 bucket method and dried with megs water magnet towel and washed with mitt , using megs gold class shampoo)

2) clayed (when its still wet?)

3) Tar remover (how do you apply?)

4) SRP (panel at a tme?)

5) EGP (whole car , then leave for an hour??)

6) dodo juice(panel at a time?)

7) wheels done seperately(can they be waxed??)

Please correct me if that is wrong anywhere because im going to start this on friday.

use the tar remover before the clay just put it on a cloth then apply it to the tar spots and it should dissolve them.

i would dry the car before claying but its personal preference

srp panel at a time use it thin and remove quite quickly other wise it could get hard to buff off

egp do the whole car leave for an hour then remove it. do as many layers as you want but leave 12 hours between.

then finnally apply your wax.

wheels deffinately polish them and egp them but its up to you if you want to put your wax on them. personally i would just layer up the egp on the wheels!

then do your tyre dressing and any other little bits!

1) Yes
2) Tar remover-apply with a soft cloth
3) Clay- best to use a detailing spray to lube or a slightly higher concentrate of shampoo in a spray
4) to 6) yep
7) you can do the same process as the car without the wax.

cool thanks guys. feel a bit more confident now.

can i ask , i gave it 1 layer of srp yesterday after washing and drying but didnt egp. but because its not garaged at night the rain has made it a bit dirty again so do i need to re-wash and dry and add srp before i can use the egp????

Claying and the tar remover will strip that off anyway so just start from the top again.

Sorry didn't read that properly, yes you really need to rewash.

If your going to clay using the supplied quick detailer I would dry it first.

You could wax the wheels to if you wanted to, The paint finish is good and comes up as well as the bodywork. You would probably be better of getting a dedicated wheel wax or using something more durable than the Dodo wax.

I find SRP and EGP on wheels is as good as the wheel sealants I have tried.

Just remember to not use anything aggressive when you next clean your wheels - use shampoo and a different mitt to that used for bodywork - Halfords do a decent grey one which is ideal for £8

I stick Poorboys Wheel Sealant or Swissvax Autobahn on top of the SRP and EGP base just for looks tbh.
