Which will have better residuals and why?

  S3, Polo
Ph2 - 172 or 172 cup - both from say, 2003.

My thoughts are that the Cup will. No real justifiction for that, other than (maybe) less were made? - Just uninformed speculation...

I realise that the current financial climate isn't ideal for used car sales, but I'm looking at the mid-long term. Maybe values will plateau later in the year?

Your thoughts?

more blue cups made than any other colour 172 iirc! It probably will, means the better one will be cheaper so no worries!

  Clio 172 cup
both will be the same id have thought, both cars have got through 75% of their depreciation now, best buy now would be a trophy, now at rock bottom, prices won`t go down any further for these cars

TBH, I'm not looking to spend Trophy money right now - I had the Elise for track work until it was stolen, damaged and stripped (now recovered, but still in a mess) - so whilst I repair that, I still want to be doing a few TD's this year. It really has to be a Ph 2 172 variant IMO.

Also, after 5 years, the Elise is also pretty tough to live with day to day, I'm now an old git and can't be bothered with the entry/ exit yogic positions in order to drive to the shops!

To be honest, if some little s**t took my car, stripped it and damaged it there is no way id keep it. It just wouldnt be the same.

Entirely my philosophy. It's been sullied by some scrote so it has to go.

I was a mug - I sold it on a Bank Holiday and took a banker's draft. It was an exceptional fake and I cancelled my insurance the day before the bank sent the draft back. Eurgh. Won't make that mistake again. The police discovered it was part of a huge car ringing operation. McAllisters recovered it and damaged the clams when they craned it on their flatbed.

Nitrons - gone
Probax seats - gone
TB's - gone
Emerald ECU - gone
Larini exhaust - gone
Victory wheels - gone

Damaged clams too! :mad::mad::mad:

...Sorry, back OT...

don't think there'll be much (if anything) in it between the two, BUT, do think you can expect them to continue to bomb in value. ok, not as much as they have done in the last couple of years, but they're now down to 3.5-4, and will continue along that path imo (being a cheap hot hatch). personally, think Trophys are looking at the same as well.

Hmmmm, maybe I should wait until the summer/ autumn before looking to buy in earnest?

Just checking out YozzaSport's buyers guide...
