Who has had.....

  Italian 3.2 V6
there cambelt snap on them? Just interested since it's sich a major thing, how many people have witnessed it?

What milage was it at?
What age was the car?
How is/was the driven on a day 2 day basis?

Thanks

If you're asking this because your cambelt is due to be changed then my advice is change it. Don't gamble on other people's experiences or it will cost you mate.

i had mine snap on me on a 1.6 16v

i'd done 56k and it was nearly 5 years old

I only ask I'm picking up and taking home a 172 from birmingham back up2 Carlisle tommorrow and it is due it's cambelt asap, it's done 48k and it's a 03 plate but is a mint example! All services and mot's have been done earlyier than there due dates and the car was a show car so hasn't been driven hard, obv I'm going to be taking it easy and not drivig it untill if had it done, was just wanting to get an idea.

Are they easy to get a look at to see what condition it's in? I.e if it's fraid or something?

I'd risk it tbh but i'd book it in for a cambelt asap and not bother driving it untill its done. I would also drive it under 3k etc i know its being a bit ott but its better than risking a belt snap. Technically you could never change a cambelt and it may not snap but its realy not worth the risk.

a guy at work just bought a 172 on a 51plate, its done 48k not had the belt done and he drove it back 100miles lol, i would be shitting a brick

  1/4 mile 14.9 @ 92mph
I drove mine nearly 100 miles back with 44k and it never had the belt done. It's now on 48k and am getting it done after christmas, cars a 03 btw

mine snapped on a M plate williams, but the belt had never been changed in 13years lol. I ran the risk and it caught me out, I only bought the car a week before and it was on 61k. i was only pootling at 30 as well, With the cambelt kit in the car as i had just bought it lol.

Personally, I would stop driving it and get it done.

Spoke to a guy once who was selling a car asked about the cambelt and he said its not upto 70k yet so it wont need doing. That was on a 99plate hyundai coupe :S I hope it snaps on you sir.

Hmm can pick up 172 blocks for relatively small money these days, if the car was a bargain then meh..

is there any possible way you can tell if its on the limit or anything? engine noise? how it drives? its idle? etc etc?

My dad had to fix an audi where the cambelt had snapped. the man was just creeping along in traffic when it happened. was about 10k miles off from being due aswell.

  Ph 1 172
my cambelt snapped at 60mph in the fast line of the m25 at 8:45am.. whole engine was fooked and nearly wiped out 2 other peoples cars and nearly got crushed by an artic lorry trying to get to the hard shoulder be for the car came to a stand still on the fast lane lol

was not much fun

its so cheap on the 1.2 its rude not to get it done early

i do cambelt aux belt and waterpump for 150 all in.

How much you paying mate??

Can pick up a 1.2 16v engine for less than £200..

Or at a touch over £200 delivered i'd be inclined to risk it..

you can literally do water pump and belt on a 1.2 in half hour if you wanted to

changing an engine especially a bare one is a good few hours work..

false economy
