Who is your broadband provider?

i would like to know.

1.) who is your broadband provider, speed you pay for
2.) speeds you get
3.) customer services good?
4.) Generally out of 10 how good would you rate your ISP.

just need a few reliable views, been to a few adsl guides on the net, but its littered with conflicting opinions. hopefully some switched on cliosporters can aid my decision on which ISP to go for.

Cheers in advance

Ur lucky!

Im with them on the 8mb package which connects around 3.5-4mb as im far away from the exchange. Speeds on web browsing at night can be slow and im constantly getting disconnected :( Tech support is quite friendly but it takes ages to get through to them and they still haven't solved my problems after about 6 phone calls. Probably rate them about 5 atm untill my problems get better. Was with them a couple of years ago on 512k at my old house and never had any problems at all.

Get a Sync negociating router. Your getting disconnections as your SNR is too low due to the speed the ISP have sync'd you at. Rate adaptive routers will give you the best speed possible but automatically drop the sync rate in order to preserve connection.

You have to remember that the majority of these people in technical support (not all, just the majority) are reading from a script.

Griff i have got a new router which seems to drop the speed to help with my connection. Its dropped from 4mb to about 3.2 and will work but it still dies some nights. I know its not really their fault that it disconnects but they could just lower my connection speed so it was more stable. Not too bothered if it connected a bit slower. The speed issues im having at peak times aren't related to this though, even now it can take about 8 seconds to load a page which can be instant during the day + ping times to google & bbc etc fluctuate between 60-200 (usually 25ish)

I'm on 2mb NTL at the moment , was thinking of upgrading to 10mb. Are you on a stand alone modem or is it in your set top box for your tv, as i heard alot of the set top boxes need to upgraded for 10 meg ? If your on stand alone i think i'll give it a miss . Only ever need to contact NTL once and it was a f*ckin nighmare , don't wanna go through all that again with some dullard on the end of the phone .

SNR (therefore your connection) will drop as the evening progresses due to meteorological changes and the numer of people online rising. Slow loading pages is normally DNS issues and unstable pings could simply be contention.

mad as a fish, 1mb (its meant to be 2mb, but I can only get 1mb in my area)
£17.99 a month.
Some times the line drops out & the customer service (in india, is pants)
when it works its great, when it don't it cr*p lol !

at home - 2mb with nildram, ok service
at uni with 6 housem8s - 8mb, bulldog, if i remember correctly 20 for the 1st 6 months and 40 after, think when the 6 months up, only a month left until we leave uni. so its ok for us. customer service 7/10.

  500bhp Scoob
Blueyonder 10mbit - £35 a month, no caps etc.
Depending on server, i get around 1100-1200kb/s
Customer service is good when i've had to ring them, maybe once a year at most. Uptime is great, get the occasional couple of hour drop outs per year (get more power cuts than downtime on the modem)

Overall rating 9/10
(Been with them for 6 years now :) )

The problem arose because I have been with them for so long. I originally had the 512 service a few years back as they have upgraded the service I have kept the same modem. New customers get a modem capable of speeds "UP TO" 10MB now my modem can only handle 8mb. Although I am actually only getting closer to 4mb.

After several calls and arguments with NTL they have agreed to provide me with a new modem by the 20th... so we will see. The service is normally good, up until now it has been very reliable. Talking the the help centre though is a nightmare.

Onetel - 512k (or whatever it is)
About 22 a month
No d/l cap
Customer services are sh*te as they're in india or pakistan

Complete useless company as they can't take direct debits out my account and blame me for having no funds. Can't phone them as they have no idea what I'm saying, emails are just copy and paste responses and don't get replies from letters. Stay away from them as much as possible :)

  Golf Mk6 Oil Burner
ntl - 1mb
3gb cap (although they dont seem to bother?)
£9.99 per month for 12 months - some online deal last aug/sep they did.
cheapest/most flimsy modem i have ever seen
customer service - not had to deal with them yet

been spot on - touch wood ! so 10/10
