who wants flocking?

  recaro'd 172 rep
ive been thinking about starting flocking for a while now.

ive seen the machine i want and think ill purchase it in the next few days.
( its far from cheap )

so who would be interested in having it done?
say £80 a dash?

obviously id do mine first to show you lot what the finish would be like

  Clio 200 Cup
That's VERY cheap, for many of the rally cars they charge £800-1000 per flocked dash....

i think £80s fair as a starting price to be honest. just a ball park figure thow.
im only going to buy it if thers a few people wanting it done to justify the xost of the machine

LOL f**k off.

You can get yourself a flocking machine from £300. I looked into it once and it's really not a lot of work, but obviously there's not a great demand for flocking but the fact not that many places do it, the places that do can charge a bit for the labour.

Good idea, but I would get fucked off with posting and receiving dash tops all the time... they're quite big.

Provided you could do everything i.e. remove parts and refit then i could be interested. Would need a think :).

Not trying to be arsey, But i'd need to see the quality of the work.

I too was going to buy the gear, Nobody up here seems to do it.

You'd be better off offering the service via Ebay, provide a BIN link and go from there.

Get 5 names on here and 3 will drop out ;)

Hmmm. Perhaps I'm being a tad paranoid but with a title like that and willing shell out £££s on a machine just for 5 names on a list? does sound abit like a scam to me.

Apologies if I'm well off with that assumption.

Its not just a case of buying the machine and off you go!

Takes a bit of practice and time to build the skill up... the guys who did mine had been trading for a few months and there work was still not 100% first time.

I'd be up for it if you could garantee the finish/if I could see a pic of yorus done first.

Gray, got any pics of yours? Who did it?

This may sound a silly question, but what does it feel like?

Had all my dash, a pillars, center console, steering column and airbag done for just short of £200. Looking into getting some more done though.

I could do with my MK1 dash top flocking, just been making a few modifications to mine and it should be ready for flocking tomorrow!

lol at this post , would rather pay someone who has experience with it , then someone who has just bought a machine and thinks they can do it , i have tried doing it before and it's not as easy as it looks , i found it hard to get the flock even all over and the flock has to be good flock and not cheap stuff !! say you did get a machine and you could do it !! what would happen if you kept messing them up and couldn't do it to people's standards ??? would you pay for someone else to do them and make a big loss ?

There is so much being over looked here, thinking thats its just the purchase of the machine will enable a good finished product is just not realistic.

The actual nature of flocking means that it MUST be condicted in a contaminant free booth or enclosure so anyone who is using a multi purpose area such as a garage or even a living space had a huge risk of foreign bodies being staticaly attracted to the adhesive once under charge.

If you hav'nt bought the machine yet then I would recommend spending a little more, we use 2 different machines, the cheapest being a german model which has a retail of £1200 and variable voltage/current control and a modified air propelled unit. These are essential for gaining an even finish when faced with complex surfaces.

The end result is ultimatly down to the technician conducting the work and as people have said, there is a lot of skill and knowledge involved.

If you have bought the machine, spend as much time as poss flocking differnt shaped surfaces and materials, no one has even mentioned adhesives yet ;-)

this is another minefield which 99% of the time gets over looked.

Latza - Fair play if you have already bought the applicator, I pressume its one of DCA's machines if it was £400? have a look at this:

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=511185&highlight=flocking

If you look at the one on Adams you can see how the flock is reflecting the light in differnt shades, is your applicator variable?

Look and the way in which ours reflects the light, it is totally uniformed and there is no difference in shades, this is achieved with the use of the variable current control. If you like I can send you some info on the machines, they are expensive but if you are making a good go of this it is definitly worth thinking about.

Hope this helps mate, if you want any advice feel free to give us a call.

Regards

Raj
