Why does that paul guy that charges £5k for a detail use a sponge?

  172 gone :( 197 now :)
Its a zymol one which has no silicone or something? What difference does this have to a normal sponge?

That zymol sponge aint all that, i dont think any sponge can be tbh.

Ive spent over £1200 on zymol in 2 years, tried most things from the range bar the few really expensive glazes and the sponge is the crappiest i reckon.

But like Rich says, each to their own and you use what you get the results you want with

Surely this means the grit will just be trapped and therefore scratch the paintwork?!

Thats what you would think, even with the old 2 bucket technique.

Im afraid i did lads.

Got the bug you could say. Started on some cleaner wax and shampoo then was like oh this is dead good, il try a starter kit, then oh this wax is ace, il upgrade to concours, then try some destiny, then i need a full kit and some titanium for the wheels, then some of the plastic wax to keep the paint on the bumpers and spoiler supple, then you start running out of things............

I won the zymol car of the month competition a while ago though, was chuffed :)

Well at least you are enjoying yourself which is the main thing. Good work on the prize too, the cars on there are normally really good.

I would look to work on other cars though, £1200 on a Meg Coupe is a lot in my opinion but each to their own. I have probably spent about £1000 on m current supplies but I use them on other cars to make some back.

Well to make me feel better i like to think the kit stays with me if i get a better car...

Ive spent loads over £1200, thats just on zymol stuff.

I just enjoy doing it tbh.

The problm is zymol used to sell tester kits with half sized pots of wax in.

I was thick and didnt think ahead and only got one....... which obviously soon run out.

It had like a 4oz atlantique, 4oz destiny and 4oz titanium...... 8oz of each of them would cost you about £1600 but these tester kits were going for a couple of hundred and you got free applicators and microwipes.

I pitty the fool.......... me :(

 thats mucho coin!

Since i have had the cup, i think i have only washed it 5-6 times with shampoo, rest of the time i just hose it down, only waxed/polished once or twice yet. I bought some Autoglym products from Halfords on the 3 for 2, but yet to use them.

Mates yap, telling me the paint wont be protected etc but to be honest i dont care, the person who buys the car next can worry about that, i have much better things to do with my time

When your car looks the best in your neighbourhood or works car park it makes it all worth it :)
Hate my car when its dirty whats the point of spending half my wages on it if it looks crap?

Renault's paint & corrosion warrenty can sort my car out in 10 years if need be. For the time being its virtually the same as black kro.

Minus about 10 jet washes and the tyre foam. Car cleaning sucks ass.
