Windows 2003 DNS/AD Query

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2
Hi Guys,

Fairly simple one I hope. Have someone with an AD called ourcompany.com and servers named server1.ourcompany.com and server2.ourcompany.com.

I find out today that everyone in the building cannot access the company website www.ourcompany.com which is hosted elsewhere out on the internet.

I pressume I need to add a DNS entry called www.ourcompany.com into the DNS record table along with the IP to direct traffic.

Help appreciated.

Thanks

If you ping www.ourcompany.com from a client machines, what do you get?

If you getting "Host cannot be found", try pinging the ip address of www.ourcompany.com. If it replies, the yes, you are correct. You need to add the DNS entry.

If you don't get a reply form either, it could be someone has been messing with firewall / content filtering etc.

this is why you dont call domains the name of your webdomain name ;) ourcompany.local works much better or .lan :)

but yes just need a dns entry we have the same problem from many moons ago when someone first set up the network here

Off the top of my head, DNS from Admin tools on the server and create a forward look up zone....... I think..... I might be wrong though....

McBunny, do you concur?
