Windows Vista Service Update Problems...

  BMW F21 125d
Had my laptop about 15 months now, all genuine Vista/Office etc etc

But today it tries and download available Windows Updates, nothing new there, but each time it tries, it locks my PC up totally and I have to power it off! I've turned automatic updates off and tried searching manually, sometimes it will work, sometimes it doesnt, when it does, it tells me that there are 19 updates available. When i try and download them, it hangs again and sits at 0kb and 0%. Tried this multiple times, no joy. Network & Internet connection is always available.

Laptop unusable with automatic updates ON (as it tries the above after being on for about 3 mins) but seems to work fine with automatic updates OFF, but this isnt ideal and my McAfee doesnt like it either!

I've not tried a system restore or a rebuild yet....

Any ideas? This one has me stumped....

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Stop the Windows Update services in Services (Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services) and then delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

If that doesn't work, then delete the lot.

I dont think my problem is totally isolate to Windows Vista Update, even with it disabled I have problems, after 5-10 mins, or sometimes after even longer, it'll just lock up, more noticibly when using the Internet, but I had problems last night when not using Interent, but also, I managed to burn 7 DVDs without a problem earlier in the day!

Maybe a rebuild / system restore is the only option....
