XP SP3 Update...

Do I still need to update IE6?

Do I still need the GDI+ detection tool?

XP SP3 will include loads of updates http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946480
But that doesnt mean you wont still need to update IE6 after this update. Just run Windows Update that will tell you what you need.

Haven't really noticed anything good or bad about having SP3 installed. The only issue I've come across (usually on laptops) is with the Microsoft UAA sound support. If the chipset requires this to be installed - it works fine on SP2, but gets killed on SP3.

That was a few weeks ago now, so they may have released a patch for it. And you don't need to worry (or use) IE anyway. Firefox is much better.

You need to reinstall the sound driver after SP3 install - it's because SP3 installs UAA support, which I believe can occasionally cause a problem when it's been installed manually.

I've tried that on the ones we have at work m8, but its still no show. The driver gets installed fine - no errors or anything, but there is just nothing at all through coming through the speakers. Try it with SP2 alone and all is well.

I'm up for giving it another try though. We've got another laptop due in the office tomorrow that I'll be downgrading from Vista Business. See if it works then.

I've installed it:

My computer boots, ready to use, a lot quicker than if I had installed all the updates individually.

I'm guessing that having a million small individual updates bog the computer down somehow.
